HG Team help

Currently I am planning on using these pokemon in my next run of HeartGold. I am going to trade them into the game in the beginning so i can use them in it's entirety I just need help with movesets and if you can add suggestions it would be very helpful. I wouldn't mind changing some pokemon around also...
(note: i am only using gen 1-2 pokemon and their evolutions for the sake of nostalgia)

-Magical Leaf
-Poison Powder

-Hidden Power Grass

-Flamethrower
(what level should i evolve growlith?)

-Spikes
-Rapid Spin
-Gyro Ball
-Earthquake or Explosion

5. Heracross
-Close Combat
-Megahorn
-Aerial Ace
-Brick Break

6. Either The Red Gyarydos Or Starmie what do you think?

You'll find that Forretress is very underwhelming in-game. It doesn't really... Do anything.

-Brick Break / Stone Edge < Stone Edge post-game

-Thunderbolt
-Psychic

As far as replacing Forretress, Scizor with Technician is nice, and Steelix is decent enough in-game. Skarmory another decent option, as is Magneton.

That's all I can think of at the moment.
