Hi all! First let me say you congratulations for your webpage and forum, it is very informative and have helped me a great deal in finding information about the current pokemon games.

I´m a old player of pokemon (which i liked among other rpg games) when i was younger but after some time i left playing it as i grow older, i even sold my old gbc and games as well as other old things i had. It had been like 6 years or more since the last time i looked at the pokemon games again, when i left it was at Johto and the silver and gold games.

I would be lying if i don´t say that before now sometimes when i had not much to do i looked up a bit to see how the pokemon games were going, what was new and all that. To my surprise they created a lot more of them, and to my dislike they did not have any of the "charm" or just the thing that made me love the old ones, specially the first 151. To be honest they remember me to the digimon more than the original pokemon, i don´t know how to explain it but i find them pretty lackluster and boring.

But recently i read about some games called "Fire red" and "Leaf green" which are basically the same as the old ones, the blue and red. The thing is that i no longer have any gba, and they do not longer sell it either. I read that you can put the gba games in a ds, but that you can no longer trade with the trade link, so you are stuck with your game and nothing else.

I stumbled among some information about a new pokemon game that would include both Kanto and Johto that releases in spring (Soul silver and heart gold if i remember correctly), that are for the DS. I was wondering if that game would allow me to play with those old pokemons, without having to play with the new ones also. I read they are a remake of the old ones, but i don´t know if they include new pokemons besides the second generation or not.

I know it may sound like a bit nostalgic, but the new pokemon really put me off and i would want a game on which i can play with the 1º and 2º generations. Also i no longer have much people to play with (my old friends all left pokemon at the same time i did) so i wonder if there is any point in coming back to the games at all, because without multiplayer the game gets pretty boring after a while.

I would very much appreciate any advice you could give me, about what i could expect of those new pokemon games, and if there is any chance of keep playing pokemon games without using the new pokemons created after Johto. Finally excuse me for my english, i am not a native speaker but i try to do the best that i can, i hope it was good enough. :)

    Thanks in advance.

Long intro. I will say that Heart Gold and Soul Silver do come with the new pokemon, it is what people demand. Also, they are remakes of Gold and Silver. Fire Red and Leaf Green are remakes of Red and Green, they include some Hoenn pokemon. So either way, you are going to have to play with new pokemon. Only way around that is to just not use the new pokemon, or play the older versions. But about not being able to play with anyone, the newer versions have Wi-Fi, so you could pretty much play with any of us PC members here. You can buy the older versions from eBay if you can't find them anywhere else( a gba aswell). If you'd like to know, VM me.

Anyways, welcome to PokeCommunity. I hope you stick around, a lot of us share the same views as you, so you'd fit in nicely.

Thanks Meneur for your explication :)

I suppose that being new pokemon on both games (Firered/leafgreen and heartgold/soulsilver), there is not much point in getting the gba ones, as the new games of johto include mostly the same thing.

The only difference i can think of is that you start in johto instead of Kanto, but that is not a big deal to me. Also the newer version seems to have much more in the way of playability and other cool features like the pokemon which follows you.

I must admit i´ve no idea abot how the Wi-fi work with the ds, i´m impressed with what you say, i never imagined you could play pokemon on the internet with other people! I almost feel like a old man that only knows how to use his trade link...but if it is possible i would be glad to trade or play with any of you once i´ve got the game.

I think i will wait until spring and the european release of those games before getting into it, but in the meantime i may try to satisfy my thirst by playing old pokemon games on the emulator, which is good enough for single player and this way remember a bit what weakness had each pokemon and all the old things i almost forgot :P

I know i tend to write long posts... so i won´t bother you much more hehe, thanks for your encouragement and your help!
