One thing I've always enjoyed about anime is how much anime there actually is. In many ways, there is literally an anime for everyone (unless of course you don't speak English or Japanese, or even like anime or anything related to it). Although there are many great anime movies or shows that we have come to love (and even speak highly about, despite the bickering or complaining we may have been given for doing so), there are in fact, even more anime we greatly enjoyed, but just didn't make it in our top lists. These are known as "honorable mentions" or to rephrase that "respectable/acceptable visions". These are the anime that didn't seem "perfect" or "top quality", but still mean a lot to us.
Well, my fellow anime enthusiasts, I would not only like to share some of my "honorable mentions", but also have you do the same. If possible, please list at least 1 and give your overall opinion on it (without spoiling it, per se).
Honorable Mention #1: Time Of Eve (aka "Eve No Jikan")
Now, when I first stumbled onto this anime, I have just recently watched the movie called "HER" (wikipedia.org/wiki/Her_(film)), and long story short, I very much loved this movie... to a point, then it did a U-Turn and pissed me off. Well, I then came across this anime and noticed that both shared a "similar" aspect. To keep this a bit shorter, after watching it, I developed a DEEP respect for my phone and an even deeper respect to AI websites (such as Cleverbot). Something about it was heart-touching to me and the ending especially made me tear up like a little kid.
Honorable Mention #2: Outbreak Company
Before seeing this anime, I had just recently finished "No Game No Life" (which, if I may add, is #3 in my top favorites list). Anyways, what this anime lacks in well... how should I put it... interesting plot (and NO, I don't mean breasts), it makes up for with a fair bit of humor and overall well thought out character and object designs. Let's just say, I felt a connection to this anime immediately, it really made me reflect on my life and daydream a bit (as do most anime), but this one really spoke to me, made me wonder... "what if...". All and all, after seeing this, I can honestly say I'm glad I did.
Honorable Mention #3: Brave Story
Before seeing this anime, I had in-fact, played and beat "Brave Story: New Traveler" on PSP. Anyways, what I can say with the utmost honesty is that both this anime and the game seem oddly similar, yet very different. Of course, you don't need to have done one to enjoy the other, but it sure does help. The story is really interesting, and although a bit vague and confusing at times, I was defintely intrigued to see where it went and how it ended. Needless to say, I wasn't disappointed. The characters are pretty memorable, the voice acting is pretty nice, and the story is actually something I'd like to do. More or less, this anime is essentially a video game in simply video format, more of a visual novel than an actual anime. Definitely something I can relate to at times. However, a few of the characters themselves are a bit annoying, so watch out for that.
