Here is where you can discuss the fishing version of the Bug-Catching Contest in "Hook, Line, and Stinker."

    My review to come forthwith.

Why wasn't this episode banned in the US? This episode caused me 3O minutes of my life that I'll never recover from.

Of course, I'll wait for the link. If anyone else ever posts here....

If that's the case, then there would be a lot of banned episodes. Hah.

This one was alright, as we got a not bad exploration of Fishing, and Misty had a rival (Ted Lewis did a pretty good job with him). I believe Poliwhirl also had a rivalry with the rival's Poliwrath's, so that made things somewhat interesting.

Then, the Rockets got abused, as usual. As if that's new. Heh.

Misty-centric episodes are good, sometimes. You have to catch Seaking and get the biggest one, right? Or do you battle, Poliwhirl vs. Poliwrath?

Touché. Johto should've been banned though.

Oh, there are some good, funny episodes in there, you just have to look. I can only mention Master Quest episodes though because that's all I've watched in the past few years from Johto. You just need to cut Johto a bit...by 70%?

Well, if you take out the Gym episodes and a few more, you can forego mid-Johto entirely. A whole season of filler. Shudders.

Anyway, Misty actually tried on this, which is nice, as her character was circling the drain, at this point.

Is this the one with Jessie's lure? I forget, but it looked cute.

Well, it technically didn't have THAT much fillers (believe me, I checked, as I was watching Johto during that marathon on June the 2nd and June 3rd around the time Diamond and Pearl aired in the states.), I mean, most of the episodes didn't seem too fillerish (I mean, they had a few important things happen.)

Anyway, Misty actually tried on this, which is nice, as her character was circling the drain, at this point.

and yet, ironically, Brock, TR, and even Ash to a certain extent did considerably less than her and still continued on [I mean, TR just tried to steal Pikachu/some random pokemon, maybe actually try to steal something that's not a pokemon, Brock saved that stantler, participated in that breeder convention, and released Ninetales, and, discounting Gyms, the Whirl Cup, saving Lugia, and the league, he didn't really do much that season, either.). BTW, I do personally believe that Misty did far more in that season than credited (I mean, I even watched that same marathon to prove that she did, and, well, I was right.), I was just stating how Brock, TR, and even Ash were technically worse off (I mean, Brock's getting complaints, and TR and even Ash are getting threads demanding their retirement.)

I may not have watched it, but I read the outline, and it was pretty good. And that serves as an accomplishment for her.

Right, there were some captures, Mewtwo Returns was placed in there, some game canon (the Kimono Sisters). Still, all that didn't excite me, which is why I wrote it off. My opinion got in the way, there, we'll leave it at that.

Well, when I first saw these episodes in 2001, I didn't think Misty was useless, no. It was split between the Rockets and Ash. Of course, Brock was just there. I need to re-watch these episodes, but I am steering toward your point of view, based on my memory here.

Oh, for future reference, whenever I refer to a part of Johto, go with the season's subtitle, or opening theme, whichever you prefer:

    Early: Johto Journeys

    Middle: Johto League Champions

    Late: Master Quest.

So, yeah, that's my barometer/litmus test, if you will. And, I thought she did fine in this one, I thought she needed it after Ash's hoopla in the Bug-Catching Contest.

The writers were throwing obviously contrived plot devices towards Misty in an attempt to salvage her character. Of course, this only served to show how limited her character really was if the producers had to suck up to her like that. After all, she represents Water Pokemon, when there are 16 other types of Pokemon in existence that could have also had the spotlight, and limiting a character to one type really restricts the activities and battles one can participate in compared to Ash's more versatile event participation record.
