How do I check if a patch is compatible with my rom?

Well I'm guite at the end of editing my rom hack, so I made a lot of changes. I wanted to add the all instruments patch to my rom.
I looked up the offsets where the patch inserts data into, and in my rom it's all FF bytes there. so I guess using this patch is okay with my rom.
But I'm still not 100% sure if the patch is compatible. is there a better way of checking if the patch is compatible? Thanks.

Just save a backup and apply the patch to the copy.

It's best practise to save a backuo anyway, so, try it and see what happens, I say.
