How do you know how to play the flute?

One thing that has always puzzled me is that your character knows how to play the flute, but that is not why it is puzzling. A flute is a musical instrument, an musical instrument takes years of practice to play correctly, and your character in the video games, especially in Sun and Moon never once tells anyone that they already know how to. It isn't even implied anywhere in any of the games that your character, or any character for that matter took flute lessons at any prior to their pokemon journey in time in their life. Yet, when you stand at the alter with Lillie, both of you simultaneously play a melody, the same melody, somehow knowing what melody to play to make the magical flute work at the same time without anyone stopping to actually ask you if you actually know how to play the thing, or even know how a flute works in the first place or not.

When is nintendo going to make a character stop when handed a flute and just simply ask, why do you assume I already know how to play this thing, let alone WHAT to play?

Guesss they assume the majority of players can play a magical instrument.

I think the key thing here is that it is a magical flute. Personally, I picture it as a long tube (more like a recorder) that just needs the user to blow on it and it magically does the rest.

Maybe for the earlier games, but we clearly see the characters in sun and moon moving their fingers along holes in the flute that kind of imply they are playing specific notes.
