How does DS Pokemon Game saves work?

I remember the old days of the Gameboy games, that were saved onto a battery in the game cartridge, and sometimes it needed to be replaced (which got kinda annoying sometimes)... does that happen with the DS? how does DS Pokemon games save? what do they save to?

They save in a similar way to a flash drive's memory. And they also run off the DS's internal clock, which is why it doesn't have the Clock Errors and Berry Glitch.
