So, anyone who's a fan of the anime could admit at least to a small degree that Ash has room for improvement, not just in his trainer skills, but I'd also argue in character depth. My question is how much room? First off, I haven't seen much of XY/XYZ or SM, so I could be entirely wrong. Now, personally I really like Ash, I'd sum him up as an energetic, outgoing, idiot who never gives up, and can be a pretty decent trainer when he wants to. But I still think he could have more depth. What I mean by that, is that I think he should be capable of showing more emotions than just happy, angry, sad. I think that he should questions his own beliefs, or at least have someone else question them. Surely after so much training and so many tournament losses you would start to think a little bit differently? And I get the whole running gag with Ash being oblivious to girls feelings about him, but maybe if he could just acknowledge it once, that'd be nice. Just food for thought. As I said, I like Ash. But, if the writers are never going to replace him with another protagonist, then I think that they should spend some more time with Ash himself, rather than just his journey. Maybe you guys agree with me, or maybe you think "he's only ten who cares". Anyways, curious to hear peoples thoughts.
