[PBS Question] How to default to reading PBS files?

So, I've played quite a few games made using Pokemon Essentials that have PBS files available to the public. I've managed to do various edits (adding Pokemon/moves) for testing purposes but it seems that this only works for some games? For others, it seems to default to reading the current .dat files instead of compiling on boot, which is a bit problematic...

Is there any way to have the game prioritize compiling PBS files instead? On some games every time I have to force compile the PBS files it just give a "script is hanging" error.
