[Discussion] How to start?/ How did you start?

I recently have become interested in Pokémon fangames. Downloaded RPGMaker/Essensials and have some vague ideas, but the whole thing is kind of overwhelming. Kinda unsure on where or how to start. I'm hoping to understand other people's processes for this sort of thing.

Also is this the correct forum for discussing game progress and talking to others? I'm sorry, I'm still a little lost.
