[Other] I am new to rom hacking and need help.

On advance map, I was making a rom hack for emerald. I don't know what happened, but I broke my first rom. This leads me to two questions.

1. Why can't I find the scripts for dialogue of my mom, such as that when you exit the moving truck, or when she tells you to set up the clock.

2. Hypothetically if I ruined a map, is there any way to restore it to the original, or replace it with the original to get a clean slate, without having to fix it manually or start the hack over completely.

sorry if the wording sounds hard to understand. I have never touched a line of code in my life, so im really bad at this.

Using a hex editor with a table file you should be able to find the text. Or edit them in AdvanceMap and edit the map scripts to find the text for that sequence.

If you ruin a map and don't keep backups, it's hosed. Unfortunate, but them's the breaks.

Do you know any good hex editing software I can use?

It's buggy, but I use Translhextion. Works with what's called table files which can view the text.

You might be better served with HexManiacAdvance though.
