I know that if you don't have wi-fi, you can use a USB connection cord. Am I right? Then, how does that work? I'm trying to figure it out BEFORE I go out and buy a cord. I don't want to buy a cord if I have no idea what I'm doing. I just want to battle and trade pokemon. Thanks.

I have never heard of using a USB cord with the DS... But maybe I'm just ignorant. IF you can, I would like to know how to myself.

You need to have a router, the USB to mini USB(for DS) cable you can buy.

I'm not sure about the rest.

You can buy a USB adapter that plugs into a laptop and emits a (very) weak WiFi signal. It's an official Nintendo product, so there's no point in shopping around. I THINK these should still be available at used game stores, but I can't be sure.

Oh, nevermind. Apparently there are third-party products which do the same thing. Here are a couple that I found.

But a warning. I didn't find any that were compatible with DSi.

it uses a brodband connection you might have in order to create a wifi signal. It works okay, and it's alot better than not having wifi, but i find real wifi works better. Talking from personal experience. If you get it second hand, make sure you get the disc that comes with the usb stick. it won't work otherwise.
