You want to learn to sprite, huh?
I'm a pretty decent spriter, and I'll say that when I was a begginer, I was totally and utterly confused, too. The first thing you need is a good graphics editor program. I'm going to go ahead and suggest adobe photoshop, I'm pretty sure thats what most spriters use, but I'm not sure. If you don't want to pay for such an expensive program, try downloading the free trial of jasc paint shop pro, whitch lasts about 60 days, then you can pay if you like the program.
The next thing you need is a sprite source, and a image host. For the spire source, you might want to check out *pokemonelite2000 link removed* , they have a whole bunch of sprites. And for the image host, try
Photobucket . After you've decided on the sprite you want to edit, I suggest starting with a recolor rather then a fusion.
In order to recolor a sprite, paste it as a new picture, then zoom in until you have a clear veiw of the pixals. From here, you just have to recolor it using the pen and the bucket tool, and maybe the dropper tool sometimes, so the only hard part you should have to worry about is shading. When shading, remember that everything is in revelance, so if you have a light yellow and you want to make the sprite red, then take a light red and fill it in there. And when you have adark yellow, lets say, then take a dark red, like crimson. It shouldn't take you to long to figure this out, just use trail and error and you'll be fine in no time. ;)
I...could go into the details of spriting, fusions, chaos, revamps, scratch. But...this post is way to long as it is. >.<
