Hey everybody!
This is my first post here so be gentle, and if this isn't the correct board for this particular post, feel free to redirect me. I've been massively into Pokemon R/S/E since I was younger, and absolutely fell in love with the games. Last year I discovered the world of hacked roms and have been hooked, especially towards the hacks with new areas and the addition of the later gens of Pokemon. I want some help, advice, guidance, and possibly partners in bringing my idea to reality.

The Concept: Emerald Expanded
An expanded world version of Emerald that keeps the story and charm of the original vanilla version, but introduces new areas, terrain, and all Pokemon available to catch in game. The map would follow the original, but add extra woodland, lakes, beaches, tropics, swampland, ancient woodland, catacombs, ruins, rainforests, fresh and saltwater lakes, and safari plains. Alongside helping to give the game more diversity of exploration, these areas would help to house the vast amount of Pokemon that now exist.
The hack would also add various QoL updates such as day/night cycle to affect the encountered pokemon, no trading needed for evolutions, post-game side quests to capture the legendaries, Full battle scene backgrounds, EXP share, and a new type of stone to make Megaevolutions permanent (Megastone). There would also be a late-game/post-game store added that sold rare items such as masterballs, to prevent the need for gameshark codes. Certain features I believe wouldn't be needed such as beauty contests and the Safari zone could be omitted, instead focusing on making the exploration in search for Pokemon more fulfilling and freeing up potential map space.

I'm very new to the world of actually creating hacks, so I'm looking for advice on what is and isn't possible. My first question being that given the amount of terrains and diversity this hack would require, I'm not sure if there's a tileset limit or a limit to the amount of variation you can put into a rom. I wanted to keep to the original tileset as much as possible, and any additions would be based off of those tiles being altered or additions that keep the same aesthetic and wouldn't look out of place.
With map size, again I don't know what the limits are, but I've taken a full image of the Hoenn map and come up with a new layout that would work incredibly well with all the listed terrains and flow nicely (also does away with some of the more useless areas from the original).

There are a lot of hacks out there, some that creating redesign the game, but I strongly feel like the concept for this one isn't completely unrealistic to achieve, especially after seeing some of the amazing additions other hacks have achieved. I feel like if done well, this would be an extremely popular hack. In my search for similar hacked roms, I see so many other people in search of roms that are basically the game they remember, but with new Pokemon, areas, and QoL updates. I feel like this would deliver that.
If anybody would be interested in helping out or giving advice, I would be beyond grateful.
