If our hero(es) were to win a tournament, how should it be handled?

You've all heard it before and plenty have said it before: Ash, May and Dawn can't win a League/GF because (insert bulls**t reason here). But here's something that's a bit different.

Suppose that Ash was planned to win a Pokemon League from the start (Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, Sinnoh, Unova, you name it)? Suppose May was meant to win the Grand Festival in Hoenn or Kanto? Suppose Dawn was meant to win the Sinnoh Grand Festival?

Now, if all those events came to pass, how should the writers of the series pull off the victories? How should they plan out the storyline and the character development from start to finish, if they planned on our so-called heroes winning the tournament they were aiming for?

Think hard on this before responding. I want your honest thoughts but don't forget to keep an open mind.

In terms of team I think they would try and set up for a well balanced teams, and not have him going in with disobedient pokemon like Charizard. The real thing is do the writers want him to win, so he won't lose on technicalities like Charizard not obeying, Pidgeotto being tired out cause Team Rocket stealing Pikachu, or some mystery man coming in with all these Legends out of no where. If it were to go down I would like to see the final be Ash vs. respective rival, or a past rival like Paul. Then he proceeds to challenge the Elite 4 from there like the battle frontier and some how manages to win, or at least when again a couple of the Elite 4, he is offered a position like Battle Frontier and refuses. Then he continues the series cause he wants to be a pokemon master and catchem all.

If that doesn't work out maybe there is hope for Cilan in some sort of Connoisseur competitions.

If Ash were to win the league championship, he would be offered to challenge one of the Elite 4 members. Then he would lose because he's just an inexperienced 10 year old kid against a pro, and he would understand he still has a lot to learn. Next, the following season would go on as if nothing had happened.

I don't feel like discussing May or Dawn's story. However, I think they should make Jessie/James win one of the competitions. Team Rocket's always losing important battles; it'd be fun to see them win once. I know the bad guys are always supposed to lose in little kids shows, but they're not even bad people so to speak.

I was asking you how "should" it be handled not how "would" it be handled. In other would, how would you do it?

It would be handled that way if my version was taken because that's the way I'd do it. Honestly, it's the same.
