    [PokeCommunity.com] Importance of Realism

In titles like Pokemon and Kirby, realism is the last thing on the developer's minds as they create their game's worlds. In games based on Earth or with Earth-like qualities, I find it extremely rare for developers to incorporate actual realistic aspects to games such as needing rest to move on, or having to gather food and water in order to not die of starvation and thirst. Sometimes, in the middle of a forest surrounded in mountains, there's a convenient store that sells you all the necessary items to continue your journey unharmed. In some very specific cases, that kind of thing is tolerable, but in others, I feel like it's something that video game developers have overlooked for far too long. What's your opinion on realism in video games? Do you think more games should try to incorporate realistic qualities, why or why not? Share your thoughts here!

Realism isnt important at all for me.
I play games such as Borderlands and StarCraft, and none of the things are something you would see in real life. A gun that shoots acid bullets? Totally fine for me. A giant monster with giant tusks as a weapon? Ill use it.
I dont really like realism in games, cause i want to escape from reality while playing games

To me, it really depends on the game's genre. If it's a platform game such as Super Mario, then I wouldn't need realistic graphics or sound effects. However, if it's a FPS game like Call of Duty, or a racing game such as Need for Speed, then the more realistic it is, the better! Storyline is more important than game style, though. If the story isn't entertaining enough, then it's not going to matter if the game is realistic or not.

One of the greatest aspects of video games is that you can take yourself to a whole different world. For me, the less realism the better. Super Mario Galaxy, for example, is incredibly fun due to the out-of-this-world adventure (for lack of a better term). None of the galaxies and planets take no attention to reality, which allows for a totally unique experience throughout the whole game. Another example would be Skyrim. Do dragons and Draugrs and magic exist? No. Do they make the game more enjoyable? Definitely.

One last thing: incorporating complete realism in a game would make it incredibly boring. It would be like real life, but on a screen.
