Inconsistant Technologies

I did a quick search on this topic, but I couldn't find anything.

Anyway, how is the Pokemon world able to develop stuff like the Poke Ball and its variants, as well as Wi-Fi, and all that nifty stuff, yet not have things like cars and planes?

I get why they don't need things like guns and tanks and that sort of thing, but why not cars and planes. They clearly have the technology and know-how, as they have numerous cruise liners and the Magnet Train.

In Pokemon B/W there are trucks on the lower level of Skyarrow Bridge and there are cargo planes in Mistralton City. I think it's more of an issue that in the Pokemon world it's become customary to use Pokemon for personal transportation so such vehicles are only used for transporting goods.

With that said I would be in heaven if the next series of Pokemon games replaced the Bike with luxury sedans, the Fly move with a private jet, and the Surf move with your own private yacht xD

Yeah, they do have that technology... They just probably don't use it that much, or your character is extremely poor. A car costs more than a bike, right? A bike cost 1,000,000 Pokedollars in the first game didnt it? So that would make it impossible for the character to buy a car?

If you want to go simply by games...Cars were in the very first games. There were references to them and the elusive Truck on the Docks. Not to mention there were luxury liners (S.S.Anne)

Gen 2: Bullet Trains, Ships, and a few other references to vehicles. You really have to search for the references.

Gen 3: You ride in a moving Van to get to your new home.

Gen 4: There are still some references.

Gen 5: Various bridges allow you to see trucks and there is an Airport in one of the cities.

If you go by the Anime:
Gary rode a car for practically half his journey. They had planes and motorbikes. Even Space rockets.

In the Manga: All forms of transportation existed and were shown at some point.

What it really boils down to...Why do YOU want a 10 year old to drive a truck? XD

Really I'd settle for being able to RIDE Pokemon XD

Generally, things that aren't necessary for the game like large transport vehicles such as cars just won't be put in the game because it'd be a waste of time creating them just to make the place look prettier.

Also seeing as the Pokémon game worlds are so small to traverse there's never anywhere to actually put cars aside from dotting them around towns or cities or whatever.

It's not ment to be an indication they don't exist, just that they're not needed for the game and thus never appear to the player. You can make the same argument for all sorts of things but you're just assuming that the absence of evidence is the evidence of absence.

There are Planes in Irrcus city (I think thats the correct spelling) and on the Tumberline and sky arrow bridge, there are trucks and cars. Stuff like that aren't really important in the game, they are there for visual reasons.
