I want to get into modding pokemon by starting with editing the crystal clear hack. I love the mod that shockslayer created and i want to add physical/special split, fairy type, and i want to edit moves, pokemon types, what the types are resistant and weak to, and i want to add moves from later generations into the game. I also have ideas for sprite edits of the pokemon, and want to add evolutions from later gens and maybe even some new evolutions.

to my knowledge, crystal clear is closed-source. that means it will be difficult to edit.

with an open-source hack you would be able to download its repository and edit it with decomp methods, but with a closed-source hack you only have binary methods available to you. and i doubt that much of the existing research into crystal binary hacking will translate to a crystal clear ROM. i don't think the kind of edits you want to make are feasible for a closed-source hack, even for an advanced hacker.

if you are keen on hacking crystal, try looking for an open-source project. polished crystal has a lot of the features you're looking for already. pokecrystal 16 is ideal for expanding content like number of moves or number of pokemon. or you could grab a clean pokecrystal base and work from there.

thx ella so it seems that i should download the pokemon crystal rom repository and learn decomp methods?
