Is it feasible for an absolute beginner to disable WiFi checks in Platinum? If so, how?

    I'm playing through a copy of Following Platinum + PlatinumQoL on Twilight Menu (New 3ds XL hardware), and have been having bad WiFi connection issues in the underground. I'm frustrated enough that I am seriously considering hacking this rom to prevent it from making these checks, or tricking it into thinking it's always connected to wifi even when it isn't. Some quick research shows that there were possibly patched Diamond roms with exactly this feature.

    I am familiar with multiple programming languages and am somewhat familiar with assembly. I've also slowly been dipping my toes into DS rom hacking with minor text edits (using DSPRE). Is this something I could reasonably accomplish? If so, how should I go about it?
