Is it worth Powering up a Dragonite 100% IV with Steel Wing / Dragon Pulse?

    Hi,

I have a Dragonite 100% IV with Steel Wing / Dragon Pulse? CP 736 (lvl 7.5). I know this is the best defensive move set, but would like to gauge the community if it's worth powering up to be a gym defender. It will cost about 90k Stardust / 90 candies to get to ~2,800CP.

    Thoughts?

At that level? Hard call. Personally, I'd toss it because of what a massive drain of resources it'd be, but not everyone will feel the same.

You'd essentially give up powering up any other Pokémon that could use some extra boosts (whatever high tier Gym Pokémon that's on your list) and would more or less throw out another potential Dragonite just to boost this one up to respectability.

You really are locked into using it as a defender should you go forward with investing all those resources into it. It's a big difference between Dragon Breath and Steel Wing. You won't be able to properly attack other common Gym defenders like Vaporeon, Gyarados, Arcanine, Flareon and other Dragonite. At least on the defending side, the AI is too dumb to properly spam quick moves so Steel Wing is fine.

I've thrown away two 100% IV Dratini already because the CP was far too low. I don't regret any of it as I still ended up with two 91.1% IV Dragonite (one for attacking, one for defending). So while I can enjoy thrashing other Gyms, I can still work toward saving up more Dratini candies should I luck out on another high IV Dratini line capture.

I kept all my 100IV but I would not power it up at that CP. I just keep it as a gym defender.
