4th Gen Is my Japanese SoulSilver cart legit?

I recently got a used Japanese SoulSilver cart from Amazon (in my quest to complete the National Dex and learn some Japanese with it), but for some reason I can't transfer anything from it to my White version. I get as far as the DS Download Play, but then it asks me to insert a copy of the 4th gen game (which is already in the slot). So I'm wondering: Did I get ripped off and accidentally order a pirated version? The game was pretty cheap for HGSS in 2016 (only around 40 bucks), so I'm a bit suspicious, but it looks like a legit DS cartridge to me, and I haven't had any issues with it until now.

Here's what the game looks like, if that makes a difference.

If I have to, I can trade stuff over to Platinum, but that's a huge pain in the ass, so I'd rather have this resolved.

nope, your cart looks pretty legit as far as i can tell, i think you're problem is the fact that it's japanese. poketransfer only works if both cartridges are the same language, so unless your white version is japanese it won't work

Ouch, and I picked HGSS since I knew it wasn't region-locked. Didn't know the White region lock affected the 4th gen games. Guess I'd better start raising that army of Bidoofs, then...
