Hi Jump Kick is supposed to inflict 1/8th of damage to the user if it misses right? Well my question is, is that 1/8th decided by potential damage ignoring the HP stat, or is it decided by 1/8th of the damage it would cause to the Pokemon? By "ignoring the HP", I mean it only factors in the target's physical defense, and then it counts how much HP it would take away in total, so it won't stop at the target's max HP it has.

One time, my Medicham tries to hit a Mawile with Hi Jump Kick, but it missed, and a good 70 or so HP was inflicted. 70 cannot be 1/8th of a Lv 50 Mawile's HP, so I was just wondering, as Hi Jump Kick always seemed to damage the user way too much than it should.

It's probably 1/8 of YOUR Medicham's HP. Not sure.

well...i don't know. its difficult to explain. but somebody told me that even if you kill the pokemon, if it had more HP it would still have been KO'd

well, first, are you sure that 70 HP was inflicted? either way, it wouldn't do 70 HP if the damage were 1/8th of the suspected damage inflicted. 8 X 70 = 560, and neither one has that many HP. perhaps D/P has now calculated Total Damage into the crash infliction.

Hi Jump Kick causes Recoil by Total Damage infliction. It's been like that since the Advance Generation (and I'm not counting NetBattle, they never had it programmed right :x)
