I appologize if this is not in the right forum! I did my best.

Okay! So, I read the guide that I found that talked about EV's, I believe it was. I got a bit of info out of it... but, wow. I've been playing Pokemon since the first Red version, and I'm reading all of this and going "Holy crap I'm such a noob." LOL!

I would REALLY like to know everything I can soak in about EV's and IV's, since, being a Gemini, I am a very competative person... and now that they have the WiFi battling...? Well, I want to have a good team so that I can fight and actually be presentable--not just rushing into it with my "favorite pokemon". So I need to understand everything I can! Knowledge = Good.

Here are a few questions that I have about both IV's and EV's:

    1. What do both of them stand for? (I saw it somewhere, but I cannot remember now. :( )

    2. How do I figure out how many my Pokemon has at the time? I thought I read they were "invisible", so it's not actually going to tell me?

    3. Something I found on the guide: "...it is required to have 4 EVs to gain 1 point in that specific stat (i.e. If you battle two Marills, you will gain 4 HP EVs, and gain 1 more point in HP once you level up)." Questions specifically for that:

    - How do I know that making a Marill faint is going to give me 2 EVs for HP? How can I learn what other pokemon will give me?

And, the guide also mentioned: "Another helpful, but random, way to speed the process, is for your Pokemon to receive the PokeRus..."

    - What is that, and how do I get it? Or... how does my Pokemon get it?

That's all that I can think of for now. Again--sorry if this is the wrong forum! I look forward to the answers, though. =)

IV stands for Individual Value. This is the points spread around a level 1 Pokemon's stats. Highest a stat can go is 31.

EV stands for Effort Value which is what Pokemon distribute when you battle.

You can't figure out how many your Pokemon have unless they are untouched. There are berries you can use that take away 10 points from a stat so that it could have no EP's (Effort Points which are the points that go to the actual stat from the 4 EV's) and you could EV train it to how you wanted.

2 HP EV's are Marill's EV distribution so it will give it to you. There are lists around the internet that show you what EV points Pokemon give you.

You can really get Pokerus from anyone for virtually nothing if you have Wi-Fi. If not, it's comes randomly and spreads quickly to Pokemon. It doubles the EV's earned from a battle so if you get 2 HP EV's from a Marill with a non Pokerus'd pokemon you would get 4 HP EV's with a Pokerus pokemon, which equals 1 EP.

    Hope this helps...

I'll do you a favor, and bring up a thread fully explaining EV's & IV's.

This is the best pokemon Website in existance. www.serebii.net. It has the most information on pokemon. It has full explinations of EV, IV, Nature, Pokerus, and it tells you what every pokemon gives you in the way of EV's when you make it faint. You cannot check how many EV's you have. You have to keep a close count from the very first pokemon that it fights.

Thank you everyone! I really appreciate it. Tyranitar, that helped a lot! I still don't quite get it, but I'm reading your post over and over and trying to find more stuff so that I will get it. xD

And, yes! Bringing a thread that was all about EV's and IV's would be great! <3
