I'm very new to ROM hacking and wanted to know what I'll need to get started, like what tools to download and stuff like that. I downloaded this https://www.pokecommunity.com/threads/451990 which I think adds most content and mechanics from the later generations into Emerald and I was able to apply the patch, but I'm not sure how to go about changing data like stats, movepools, etc.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

I can send you a pack of tools that I use for every purpose imaginable. I'll explain all of them, too. For starters though, what you need is AdvanceMap and XSE for maps and scripts respectively. Then, you'll need something like NSE for sprite editing and YAPE for Pokemon editing. Any other features like custom music and overworld sprites may require additional software. Good luck!

That would be great, thank you!
