I know its a remake but I was hoping they would add a few more stuff in Kanto. Its incredibly short. I was hoping it would be the same length as Johto however I was left very disappointed.

The gyms are so close to each other that you virtually just walk from one gym to the next without having to do anything in between. Theres no storyline whatsoever like the Team Rocket attempted revival in Johto.

Furthermore, the wild pokemon is incredibly weak that theres no reason at all to not use repel.

They need to add more trainers as well. I cant fathom why there arent any trainers in the Rock Tunnel.

I found the game fun in Johto, however Kanto just felt like a complete waste of time.

I always thought the point of Kanto was the gyms, not much else. A small story just made you work a little for all of it.

If you don't like it now, I'd love to see your reaction to how Kanto was in G/S/C:
-All the Kanto trainers and Gym Leaders were a good 10 levels lower
-There were less than half as many trainers as there are now (Routes that have 12 in HG/SS only had 3 or 4 in G/S/C)
-The Fighting Dojo was pointless, since you couldn't rematch the Gym Leaders in those games
-No trainers or puzzle in Blue's Gym
-No Safari Zone/Pal Park/Anything in Fuchsia City
    -No Viridian Forest
-No Seafoam Caverns (And Blaine didn't even have a Gym but rather a tiny room with nothing in it but him)
    -No Cerulean Cave
    -No extended Suicune plot
    -No Lati@s
    -No Legendary Birds
    -No Mewtwo

As for the Gyms all being so close to each other, that's not the game's fault as much as it's the fault of Kanto's layout. Look at a map of it from any generation and you'll see that 4 of the 8 gyms are all in towns incredibly close to each other.

While a little more involvement from Team Rocket would have been nice, Game Freak still made quite a fair amount of improvements to Kanto in HG/SS compared to how it was in G/S/C.

It kinda is short. Now that I have beaten all the Gyms I use it for egg hatching and the Magnet Train.

    1) a full fledged kanto adventure would be extremely hard to fit on the ds
2)As shadow lugia pointed out, Kanto provides a huge bonus of legendaries and trainers that dwarf the original G/S/C
3)fundamental logic is that since all of the trainers in the kanto region are about the same level you DON'T need to level grind against wild pokemon. And anyways everyone uses repels when they play, even in Johto. Majority of the pokemon there will also be horribly underleveled as well. Also the diversity of pokemon now available too you is almost 2 gens full, the most present in any game so far.

Since im probably not going to convince you I'll leave it at that, but think about this, every game previous to HG/SS after the elite four has even LESS content, while HG/SS's post elite four content is extremely throughout compared to every other game.

Now i know why the old man in my HG game says blue doesn't use any side trainers. GameFreak forgot to leave that part out!!

Kanto is even worse in GSC. It's really annoying to grind im Mt. Silver for Red, since you're out of options in both HGSS and GSC.
This is why I prefer DPPt over HGSS : It's easier to train. And, come to think of it, Kanto is supposed to be like the Sevii/Battle Zone/etc., not another region.

they couldve put more story into Kanto and we all know it
evidence: Shiny Gold (X) enough said, anyone whos played that rom will know im right.

i wish they put more time, effort, and storyline into Kanto
and is all about beating the gyms,& fixing the magnet train.
after that all you got to do is catch those legendaries and your done.

but my excuse for nintendo/game freak making all the trainers,& wild pokemon pitiful (in both regions) is: the anime. in the anime i doubt half the pokemon you see in the wild, with those 1off trainers, exc. are above 30 at most.
so they took that and made Johto/Kanto more "realistic"

If you compare HG/SS and G/S/C Kanto is much better in the new versions.
But still.. I agree that it is kind of boring. No plot whatsoever. Just the gyms.

Kanto is just about the gyms and doing a little training and adding a little sub-plot.

Anyways, you should be grateful, they added the Pokéwalker and loads of new features.

Kanto is much more depressing and worse to play in G/S/C to be honest. At least with HG/SS, it isn't as bad and overall it's a more fun place to play the game at then its original version.

Yes Kanto was even worst in G/S/C

The point is Kanto is a whole different region (the same size as Johto) that presented the possibility to have a much thorough and interseting storyline, not just an 'extra' after the E4. Even then, at least the seven islands in R/S had a storyline with Team Rocket/getting the ruby and sapphire. HG/SS has nothing except for battling the gym leaders.

I was so bored of kanto :\
Man just thinking about it makes me ill

Johto was SO much more fun! Not only that, but kantos gym leaders didn't even have anything interesting :\

    I liked Kanto,but I like Johto better.
Kanto was good cause it was re-done with good graphics and more and stronger pokemon.
now,we dont have to play FR/LG to get Kanto Pokemon.
I look at it like that.

I use kanto for place to get rare and beside that it was pretty boring and gyms were easy the only part i liked was mt. silver even though technicly its really is in the Johto.

I bought a second copy of SS just so I can keep starting it over after I beat the E4 and not lose my prized party. Yeah, Kanto to me was that boring.

You know what I thought would have been interesting? Instead of taking a ship to Vermilion City, you're allowed to access Viridian City from the league gate right away, and then you go through a Kanto journey more similar to the Gen I & III games, except this time it's more "peaceful", because it's 3 years later and Team Rocket has moved. And the wild Pokemon levels should have been adjusted, for instance, instead of facing Pokemon around Lv3-7 in Route 2, it should have been Lv33-37.

The way they're doing it now is kinda sloppy: You go to Vermilion City and then randomly fight the Gym Leaders in east Kanto until you get rid of Snorlax. I hate how they kept some of G/S/C's Kanto plot devices that were originally made to save space because the Gameboy didn't have much space. It's pretty obvious that Cinnabar only blew up because Gameboy games could only be up to 2mb. But now they have 128mb to work with, and they act as if they're still using Gameboy cartridges... At least they restored Viridian Forest and Seafoam Islands. Another thing that's kinda bothering is the lack of trainers in Victory Road and Rock Tunnel.

Kanto is just about the gyms and doing a little training and adding a little sub-plot.

Anyways, you should be grateful, they added the Pokéwalker and loads of new features.

The pokewalker is nothing special, I haven't used it in two months.

they could have at least reconstructed cinnabar after some events. and open the other underground paths, radio tower and silph. seriousyl they brought back ceraulean cave but left all that stuff out..

basically re-open everything that was closed in orgiginal g/s/c

another thing that was disturbing is that pokemon on route 1 are level 3-5 when we already come with level 50's. seems like they wanted to make a fresh adventure at that point and scrapped it. but they proably did to make it more parallel but we dgaf
