    ~Kian~'s ATTEMPT at spriting -FAKEMON-

Well hi guys, i am what you would call a NOOB spriter, i have been trying to learn to sprite fakemon but it is hard, but i finally feel i have some sprite ideas that i am not ashamed to show :D so please enjoy, i would love some constructive critisism :). My sprites are not to used in hacks/games at the moment but as time goes on i may change my mind. None of these are 100% completed and i know that the outlines need to be softened so dont worry about that :)

First of all my favorate sprites so far -Seirus + Saluchi + Saluchomp-

    1st EVOLUTION
It is rather small but i hope you can see :), it is 100 Scratched although i have used some of Huntail's colours.
The evolutions are very big, its just the idea of it though, mainly because the are so big the dont really count as sprites :D.

Next up is a dino fake - BOURKU -

Again small so i hope you can see :), it is steel and ground type, i have used bastiodon's colours for this one :)

Next up is the dino fakes Evo, kinda basic -BAKANGO -

I am not a giant fan of this one, i dont like the way is has turned out, but i like the markings on the body and head. :)

I will be adding some more sprites when i get around to colouring them :), i hope you guys enjoyed these sprites. More are on the way.

you have a great grasp of the basics of spriting in the pokemon style but i think you need to focus on refining your designs.

draw your designs on paper first and then approach spriting.

anywho, looking forward to seeing some more from ya.

Thank-you, and about the drawing on paper, i cannot draw AT ALL i am terrible. Is there any other way i can refine my spriting without drawgin on paper? :)

These are all good starts. The key thing missing at this point is detail. One way you could encourage yourself to take that step would be to look at well-made sprites and see how they are constructed. Zoom in on them and get close. It's the finer details where a lot of okay work becomes good or great work. Look at the official pokemon sprites as a start.

But I'm getting ahead of myself. The pencil and paper idea really is a good way to get ideas out. It's quick and easy. You're not trying to design a sprite's final shape on paper necessarily. You're coming up with ideas and trying them out in a way that doesn't take as long as it would to add them pixel by pixel to your sprites. It's just a "Hmm, maybe if I put a horn there... nah, maybe if it looks like this" kind of process.

Of course you can do all that on the computer, but I think that's better to do when you have a solid concept of what you want to make.

Well thanks for the advice, i try to come up with ideas, like your example of the horn, but i do it all on paint :), but you are right it is alot better on paper. Also i was looking at sprites today and i think if i put markings and unique features on the sprites they might look more professional and more like pokemon, do you think that would help? :D

    UPDATE:
[PokeCommunity.com] ~Kian~'s ATTEMPT at spriting ENJOY!

    Two ground/dragon? maybe..

these are 100% scartched and i have made up the colours without other sprites, that maybe why the colours suck ;). The horns spikes on the body are not looking any good, can anyone help ? :D

The colour of the lines could do with a lot of reworking for one, because it's very hard to actually see the difference in line colour between the light and dark areas of the spikes, or on the body in general.

Look at a lot of official Pokémon sprites. When outlining parts of the sprite which are being lit, they usually create a noticeably darker shade than the shadow colour that and use that, and go darker than that (sometimes black if it's dark enough) to outline the shaded parts of a sprites.

These are very good and definitely better than me. I am learning to sprite too and I hope that you become a professional spriter. I would like to see you make a fakedex with these, that would be pretty cool!!!

Names........................Seirus I think should be the little water one at the very top of the page and then the evolution of it should be............Saluchi.
Those are the only names I have come up with for now but Ill try to think of more later.

    The new one is amazing!!!!!
I really like it. And your name suits it well too!
Thanks for liking my names and using them.

I have thought up a name for the baby dino fake that is steel/ground:
    BOURKU
    Its Evolution:
    BAKANGO

    Hope you like 'em.
If you don't, be sure to tell cause I may be able to come up with another.

Thank-you im glad you liked it, and i also love the name for it.. The new names, are original again, but whats the thinking behind them? :D..
I will make a new sprite later on tonight, but a bit busy at the moment :D

    ~Kian~

Well, I usually look up japanese names of animals or whatever the fakemon looks like and use part of that word and part of the English word. Then, I might add an extra "y" at the end or "o" or "u" or whatever. Than other times I might just come up randomly with a name that sounds cool and it works!!!! I am very excited to see your new one and also, I have a suggestion. For BAKANGO I would suggest using the first one's tail with the second one's body.

i think of opening PC after a long tie and wht a sight to see a familiar name in the spotlight in pixel art !!!!!

they're awesome kian!!! u finally got awesome dude !!! I wish you the best and i hope to see even better work from you !! its good to see one of us is still on PC !!!

and about rating i'll give em 3.5/5 because they still arent the best but they're pretty good !! my fav is BAKANGO it looks great with the shields

The shading across the entire sprite is very jagged (the shading doesn't curve naturally so it looks very jagged and strange instead of being a smooth division - a lot of the curves in the outlines are also drawn poorly), some of the shading is rather suspect (like the back legs having any light), the eyes are particularly underdetailed and hard to decipher, the highlight seems tacked-on and again not very smoothly drawn, the outlines don't change colour between light and dark areas of the sprite. You've also got some rough outlines that should have been cleaned up around the head.

The design in general is very under-detailed, and doesn't really bring across the idea of a final stage of an evolution line - it's basically the first form made a bit bigger with some extra fins.

thank-you very much, i like that one also :D.. glad to be back as well. thanks alot mate.

yeah i agree with all about the shading and the the curves need to be tidied up, i did that sprite at 3 in the mourning ;) ill touch it up.. i dont agree about it just being bigger and having more fins though. official sprites do that also, for example; Machamp and Machoke.. but thank-you anyway..

    UPDATE
    well i havn't updated in a while so here is a sprite i did a while ago i am having real trouble with it, but i wish i could improve it, so guys advice please, its an ant eater pokemon;
