Lady Gaga becomes a "roadie" for... Iron Maiden?

This is the side of music I like to see. Where people simply respect each other for their music, regardless of genre. Iron maiden and Lady Gaga could not be more different. But this is a rather interesting development! Perhaps her touring with the band will have some sort of influence on her music?

So, what do you guys think about this?

• Do you feel that there should be more tolerance between pop music and other genres like this?
• Do you think that Lady Gaga's influence has been or will be influenced by such diverse genres than her own?
• Is this the side of music we hear too little about?

Personally, I respect Gaga, in the sense that she is one of the more talented musicians, and yes I say musicians, in the pop scene right now, and I think that the fact she appreciates bands which normally, pop music would have nothing to do with, adds to her acclaim as both a musician, and a pop artist.

According to Mirror.co.uk, pop superstar Lady Gaga is such a huge fan of British heavy metal legends Iron Maiden that she helped the band backstage during their Florida tour stop.
The singer appointed herself an unofficial roadie for a couple of dates of Iron Maiden's "The Final Frontier" world tour, helping out on the tour bus with chores such as ironing and serving drinks.

"It's a side to Gaga we've never seen. She is a massive Iron Maiden fan and was willing to be at their beck and call, just to hang out with her idols", a source told Mirror.co.uk.
"She was humming along to their hit 'The Number Of The Beast' while carrying out her chores. And after all her hard work backstage she was rewarded with some drinking games."
A photo of Lady Gaga hanging out with IRON MAIDEN drummer Nicko McBrain backstage at the MAIDEN concert in Tampa, Florida on Sunday, April 17 have been posted on her Twitter profile with a caption that simply said "Sexy Beast. 666".
Lady Gaga is recently appeared in photos with Anthrax drummer Charlie Benante and this year's Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame inductee Alice Cooper.
For her 666th tweet, Lady Gaga wrote the following message on April 10:
"The Number of the Beast. Having' beers listening to Maiden w the New York Boys. Happy 666 Twitterland."
During Gaga's February 5, 2010 appearance on Ryan Seacrest's radio show, Seacrest played the singer an excerpt from an interview he conducted with Ozzy Osbourne in which the Black Sabbath frontman said of Gaga, "She's very clever, very interesting. She's wacky and I like the zaniness of that woman."
According to MTV.com, this news pleased Gaga to no end. "Are you kidding? I'm the biggest Black Sabbath fan on Earth!" She even told Seacrest a story about how when she was a go-go dancer, one of her show-stopping numbers was to the Sabbath tune "Black Sabbath".
Lady Gaga reveals her two favorite songs to dance to: Black Sabbath's "Black Sabbath" and Iron Maiden's "Run To The Hills".

Don't shoot me, but...

Lady Gaga, or the people who manage her, certainly understands the business side of the music industry. Keep yourself in the public consciousness as much as possible and you're sure to make money. Sorry to sound cynical about this, but that's the impression I get from reading news like this. I mean, the other day someone showed me a country & western mix of that one big song she had a short while ago (I can't remember the name) and aside from the fact that it didn't really fit with the song it came across as a little patronizing. Chameleon artists like her tend to rub me as a bit insincere. It would be different if she wanted to turn her musical focus toward metal or some other style, but to just attach yourself to some other group makes me think she's doing it for the publicity. I might be completely wrong, but it's not like I'll ever know for sure.

It's nice that there can be such a cross-pollination of music such as the stuff described in the article, but I also agree with Scarf in that it feels more like a publicity stunt rather than a genuine desire to interact with musical idols. Why were The Mirror reporting this story, unless someone from either Iron Maiden or Lady Gaga's management alerted to the presence of it in the first place? Artists like Gaga rely on staying perpetually in the zeitgeist, and this is, unfortunatley, one of the ways to sustain it.

It's nice of her to do this, but it does feel a little bit cheap and corporate: sort of a a summation of the Gaga ethos, to a certain extent.
