Yeah, the fake diamond/jade games are fairly well known. If you look it up you can find a ROM of it. (It's not illegal, either, because the game isn't technically a real game on the market). I've played the ROM before. The funny thing is, the actual game looks nothing like the screenshots on the back of that box. Not to mention that those fakemons' names in that one screenshot are "Meowth" and "Sandshrew". wtf. And wow, look at that colored sprite in the middle of a town that's only two different colors!
Anyway, the ROM I played of the fake diamond version was really weird:
- You played as this dude named Mr. Bek.
- Instead of catching Pokemon you got their phone numbers from them and called them when you wanted them to battle.
- You were able to buy things like guns, bombs, and knives and give them to your monsters.
- The Pokemon weren't called Pokemon, they were 'electric monsters'.
- The english was very poor, as if it had been babelfished or something. It was pure "all your base are belong to us" through the entire game, and at times I couldn't understand what the hell they were trying to say at all.
- I couldn't really understand the story very well because of the poor english, but it was something about going to the electric world and saving the antenna trees, or something like that.
- The color scheme hurt my eyes, and the graphics looked like they were from Zelda or something.
- You could have one monster follow you around like Pikachu does in yellow. It could be any monster and you could change at any time.
- You start out with one monster that looks like sandslash.
- There was a lot of cursing in the game.
- To heal your monsters, all you had to do was stand in one place for a while and your HP would start increasing.
So, basically, it was just that telefang game thing badly translated into english and made to look like a pokemon game on the outside. But I have to admit, the fakemon on the box looks pretty cool XD
Ooh, I found some screenshots I had taken of the Diamond ROM.
