    Hello All,

I'm currently playing Pokemon White and looking to build a team to go against the league for the second time. I don't want to spend too much time on in depth battle strategy like EV's or IV's. I've never really understood it and have found that the simple approach using type advantage, balanced moveset, and a balanced team can be just as effective and fun. I've setup a basic team below and also outlined some operational guidelines while critiquing. Number 2 is really important, I would like my team to be diverse (with only one repeat).

    Base Team:
    Gengar
    Weavile
    Lucario
    Flygon
    Magcargo
    Xatu

    Goal Guidelines:
If you find it necessary to suggest an alternative combination:
    1) Assume that you have access to all pokemon (Gen 1 - Gen 5)
    2) Pull members from each of the five gens. (W/the sixth member pulled from a place of your choosing)

    Thank you in advance!

You should probably be a little more specific with your team.Like what nature your Pokemon are or what they specialize in (Attack, Defense, Speed, etc.) Knowing this will make it much easier to help you.

I've been focusing on completing the national dex recently, so the levels vary. Here is some more specific information:

    Gengar (Lv. 25)
    Nature: Timid (Somewhat vain)
    Ability: Levitate
Moves: Shadow Punch, Confuse Ray, Night Shade, Curse
    Specialty: Attack

    Weavile (Lv. 59)
Nature: Impish (Proud of its power)
    Ability: Pressure
Moves: Slash, Beat Up, Metal Claw, Ice Shard
    Specialty: Sp. Atk

    Lucario (Lv. 100)
    Nature: Lax (Mischievous)
    Ability: Steadfast
Moves: ExtremeSpeed, Aura Sphere, Dragon Pulse, Heal Pulse
    Specialty: Sp. Def

    Flygon (Lv. 46)
    Nature: Gentle (Highly persistent)
    Ability: Levitate
Moves: Crunch, Dig, Faint Attack, Dragon Claw
    Specialty: Defense

    Magcargo (Lv. 38)
    Nature: Modest (Likes to run)
    Ability: Magma Armor
Moves: AncientPower, Flame Burst, Lava Plume, Rock Throw
    Speciality: Attack

    Xatu (Lv. 25)
Nature: Modest (Capable of taking hits)
    Ability: Synchronize
Moves: Peck, Miracle Eye, Night Shade, Teleport
    Specialty: Attack

Are these the Pokemon you plan on using for the League right?

Yeah, these are the one's I had narrowed down. But, I just wanted to find a way to pull from each gen with one obvious repeat. It's just a personal preference.

If those are the Pokemon you are using:

    Gengar(Attack):

    Item: Black Sludge

    Moveset:
    Protect/Substitute
    Focus Blast
    Shadow Ball/Punch
    (Any other Physical Move

    Weavile(Special Attack):

Special Attack Weavile is pretty bad

    Moveset:
    Ice Shard/Ice Beam
    Pursuit/Dark Pulse
    Low Kick/Surf
    Ice Punch/Nasty Plot

    Lucario:

(Lax also a bad Nature, but could be worse)

    Ability: Steadfast is also bad

Item: any of the choice items. (Choice Scarf, band)

    Moveset:
    Dragon Pulse
    Aura Sphere
    Extreme Speed
    Bullet Punch/Crunch

    Flygon:
    (Never seen a Gentle Flygon)

    Item: Life Orb

    Dragon Claw
    Earthquake
    Crunch
    Fire Punch

    Magcargo:

    (Usually Magcargo is defensive)

If it has pretty solid defense:

    Item: Leftovers

    Moveset:
    Stealth Rock
    Recover
    Lava Plume
    Toxic

    Xatu(Perfect for Modest):

    Item: Life Orb

    Moveset:
    Psychic/Psyshock
    Grass Knot
    Heat Wave/Night Shade/Toxic
    Roost

Do you have any suggestions for the few that aren't so great, maybe an alternative?

The best alternative would be to catch the same Pokemon just with different natures than the current ones you have now.
