Hi folks, im sure there has been plenty of new members asking for advice on making there first game, but whats one more.

I will say im completely new to this, though have always admired the work other people have done, so I thought its time I start learning.

The desire to start came from playing through "Pokemon reborn" and though thoroughly enjoying the game, one of the games biggest allure is also turning into one of drawbacks for me, and that is just how big the game is. Dont get me wrong I love the game and think its brilliant but its very long.

So it got me thinking about a concept for a "short and sweet" pokemon game where it makes the most of short play time with some interesting content and tries to cut back the time consuming parts of Pokemon games

So here is the idea, The game would be based around a Junior pokemon league, a newly introduced official league designed so children under 10 can get a provisional pokemon license. The league would be set on a carefully controlled island with a very limited selection of child friendly Pokemon where the young trainers could experience and be tested on every aspect of training pokemon in safe controlled environment ( or so everyone thinks)

So a little bit cutesy aesthetic to the game but with some wild cards thrown in there, with the usual rival and antagonist.

Junior pokedex to only contain 30-40 pokemon but there to be extra wild pokemon in secret areas etc with an emphasis on capturing and using all pokemon in game

max level cap being around 30, so no over evolved Pokemon and short playtime as less time spent level grinding.

These are only preliminary ideas and nothing set in stone.

I would like to see what you all think and any links to starter tutorials, or general advice on where to start, what programs to get etc would be most appreciated.

    Thanks for reading

I really like the concept. It's fresh and imaginative. The only thing would be a higher lvl. cap. There are ways to stop Pokemon from evolving so they stay at their basic evolution if that's what you are looking to do. The story can be short and sweet but leave it up to the player to decide how strong they decide to raise their Pokemon. A good way to deter the player from getting to a lvl. that's too high for your story is to make all battles against really low lvl. Pokemon. Lower than in a typical game any way.

here is the page for several useful links on beginner scripting and other useful tools and such that you will need to know. I suggest you take some time really understanding these before you do anything else. Although, a hands on approach can be helpful too. Hope this helps for now.

Sorry about the URL but I'm too new to these forums to post an actual link:/
