Ok, this is the first Yuri I've seen, so it scared me a little [I'm not homophobic, I just wasnt expecting that. My friend failed to tell me it was Shonen Ai ¬¬] but its now one of my favorite animes ever. And I know other people have seen it too, so... lets talk about it ^^

I'm surprised your friend failed to tell you it was a boys love title. The shounen-ai is a huge focal point in this show.

Anyway, I've only watched Loveless one time through. It was pretty good. It's a shame the ending lacked a proper conclusion, though. I guess that's what the manga is for. lol

    I know! XO

Well I saw the whole thing in a weekend(I was bored out of my skull) and I had no idea what the whole Zero thing was, why that guy who looked like Soubi was important at all, and why they ended it like that.

Good thing there might be a new season!

    Yuri isn't actually the correct term: it's yaoi. Yuri is, well, similar, but kind of the other way. XD;
That said, I haven't seen Loveless, but it seems to be a pretty popular anime. So tell me about it! How long is it, why's it good, and why do you say that there might be a new season?

As Abby mentioned, it's actually Yaoi/Shounen-ai. Yuri is girl/girl. XD But that asside, I loved Loveless. <3 Soubi/Ritsuka was one of the more adorable shounen-ai couples, even though I didn't support it at the beginning. It was an adorable series and I'm trying to collect the manga now, but my Books-A-Million never seems to have it. D:

Oh god, I knew it wasnt yuri, I dont even know why I said that. I knew it was shonen ai. Sorry about that ^^' [I feel stupid now ;.;]

Abby: Its 12 episodes long, and the plot os extememly deep, so its hard to just explain it. You should just watch it. Each episode is only like 20 minutes long, which is shorter than usual

The anime was really good and I watched it...last summer I believe? It was subbed on YouTube, so I watched it all in one setting and I loved it. <3 And don't worry, Chikara. I use to say yuri/yaoi and mean the other. XD Stupid fingers typing! haha.

Yeah... I was actually thinking over and over "its not yuri... its not yuri..." shows how much that paid off XD

But yeah, its definetly an awsome show. Have you seen the english version yet? Cause I havnt..

Source? I would love for this to be true, but I very much doubt a second season is in the works.

There is no English dub for the Loveless anime. Media Blasters released this series as a subtitle only release, no English version was ever produced. This seems to be a trend with a lot of their shounen-ai titles, sadly. =/

It was a good series, could have been longer though. It was pretty unique in the way that some of its ideas were played out, but sometimes it did feel way too generic and tried to be way too self important at times. For the most part, the characters were all very intriguing and despite its limited budget, the studio managed to get some pretty big name VAs and have very nice animation.

As for a second series, I wouldn't count on it. Though there is plenty of material for a second series, and really, there should be, it's such a good manga, the ratings for the first series were pretty abysmal.

I knew the series had low ratings, but I didn't think they'd be that bad. o_o

I've heard that randomness of a new season. I'd love that, but I highly doubt it would happen. D: Unless someone like Gonzo grabbed it.

If Gonzo did grab it, I'd be extremely weary. They've been known to stray far from the original source material for some of their shows. There's a small chance they'd be able to pull it off, but I don't think they'd be capable of creating a second season that was on par with the first. J.C. Staff > Gonzo, imo.

Midnight anime are known for lowish ratings, but that doesn't matter in most cases because of the timeslot. Loveless though, got low ratings, even for its timeslot. Death Note has about the same time and it's able to get at least 2.0s a lot, Loveless only got anything above 2.0 once.

This is a partial ratings chart I found last year.
    Spoiler:

Ouch. That is abysmal. I remember someone posting a chart up awhile ago on another forum that showcased the DVD and merchandise sales for the anime airing at the time. Loveless wasn't doing too bad in the merchandise department. The DVDs were selling well, if memory serves me correctly. I'm surprised the actual TV ratings turned out to be so low.

The only reason I said Gonzo instead of the original production company was because of the fact that if they know about how bad the original ratings were, they might not want to risk it. Gonzo, though, has been pretty good with romance animes such as Basilisk and Romeo and Juliet; along with the fact that they're good with anything that has action in it; a.k.a Black Cat, Full Metal Panic, Chrono Crusade etc. I actually like Gonzo as a company. :3

If merchandise sells well, then there's a slight chance there might be at least an OVA or two, but as I recall, it was a pretty expensive anime to make and having a channel sponsor it would help pay for a lot of the costs, which means more money for the studio since they don't have to pay out of their pockets.

Ah, RomeoxJuliet is a title I'm very much looking forward to! :) And I see your point, however I think losing money is not in the interest of any company. If a title didn't do well the first time around, chances are it won't do much better the second time. I have to admit though, seeing a Gonzo adaption of Loveless would be very intriguing. =)

True. I think if there was going to be an OAV it would've been done already. Which is a shame, since there are so many loose ends to tie up.

I knew the ratings were low, but I really thought they would be a little higher than that ._.

Going back to the english stuff cause I never got a chance to ask this, but you mean they released DVDs in America in Japanese? Call me slow, but I didnt even know that were doing that...

Yes, the Loveless DVDs were released by Media Blasters in 2006. There are 3 volumes to the TV series. It's a sub only release, so the prices of the singles themselves are relatively cheap. I think there's also supposed to be some kind of economy pack collection being released in April. :)
