    How's this for the ugly Pokemon:

    Magmortar@Expert Belt
    Nature: Mild
    Ability: Flame Body
    EVs: 252 Sp.Atk, 224 Spd, 34 Atk

    Flamethrower
    Thunderbolt
    HP Ice/Will-o-Wisp
    Cross Chop

    I've always preferred the Magmar Line over Electabuzz's. I'm upset they didn't give him a cool ability like Electivire though.

    I'd rather use HP Ice over Overheat, but it's fine. Take caution against Stealth Rockers and Sand Streamers. Also, how about trying Focus Punch / Cross Chop over Focus Blast, and giving it an Expert Belt? A little less EVs in speed and more to attack in this case.

    Overheat is bad as it lowers Sp.Attack which is valuble to Magmortar. PLus you already have Flamethrower to cover it.

    I personally prefer him over Electivire. Suggestions?

    There you go, a little suggestion.
     
    It's a high power special sweeping attack, so it's not bad. FP is bad as Magmortar has horrible attack.

    Obviously you don't get the point. It surprises your opponent into thinking that Magmortar only uses special attacks. Watch as they bring in a special wall of some sort, and then you attack with Focus Punch / Cross Chop. In this case, you would most likely need to predict.

    Yes, exactly. Psychic rerally shouldn't ever be used, unless a pokemon like Zam gets STAB from it. Magmortar doesn't have as bad attack as you say he does Jimmyray, and could definately pull off a surprise mix sweeper set.
     
    Yeah, I was thinking of using him as a Mixed Sweeper, but I wasn't sure where to go. Trust me - from my experience, Psychic sucks without STAB. That's why I didn't bother putting it up there. So:

    Magmortar@Expert Belt
    Nature: Mild
    Ability: Flame Body
    EVs: 200 Special Attack, 164 HP, 104 Attack, 40 Speed (Terrible with EVs)

    Flamethrower
    Thunderbolt
    HP Ice
    Cross Chop
     
    Just a note, if obtaining HP Ice is too much of a bother, Will-O-Wisp is an acceptable option too. Dragons and others such as Rhyperior get scared.
     
    i use my magmortar as a starter with focus sash and will-o-wisp. it's probably not the best thing to do with it, but it's effective, and i appreciate effective.

    i suppose magmortar could do choice specs, choice scarf, SubPunch or just plain life orb sweeper.
