Editing in XSE or asm?
It relies on what you wanna do, but surely you'll need to learn scripting (to make it work) and spriting (to see it on the game).
Also you may need a free space finder, because you will have to insert new stuff somewhere.
It doesn't help a lot, but at least is a guide on where to start.
