    Info:

Dewgong, simply put, is a "poor man's Lapras." While it has the same dual-typing and learns the same top offensive Ice moves in Frost Breath and Blizzard, Dewgong is statistically inferior in every way other than Defense, which it has a measly +2 advantage on. However, Dewgong is arguably much easier to obtain, which means players looking for a capable Pokémon that can dish out STAB Ice-type moves can temporarily settle for this sea lion prior to obtaining an optimal Lapras.

Here's a comparison between Lapras and Dewgong:

Stats for Pokémon in the video:
    CP1480 Lapras (IV: 71.1% - 14/3/15, Frost Breath/Blizzard) vs. CP3072 Dragonite (IV: 91.1% - 15/11/15, Steel Wing/Hyper Beam)
    CP1470 Dewgong (IV: 86.7% - 13/11/15, Frost Breath/Blizzard) vs. CP3072 Dragonite (IV: 91.1% - 15/11/15, Steel Wing/Hyper Beam)

Note for the video: Dewgong did not faint at the end as the animation is delayed for Blizzard.

While Lapras can be seen as the end-game, Dewgong is fully capable of doing its job as an offensive Pokémon. The moveset is especially important. While Lapras can make do with any combination of Frost Breath, Ice Shard, Blizzard, and Ice Beam, Dewgong is limited to Frost Breath/Blizzard if going on the offensive.

Do you own a Dewgong? What is your experience with it?

Unfortunately, the only Dewgong I have captured is CP 26! Also, it has Ice Shard/Aqua Jet which isn't great as a move set. Seel is ultra-rare around here, I've captured around 5. A CP 1200 Cloyster is the most powerful ice pokemon I have.

I am in the process of building a Cp1800 army to power up gyms. The background is that you get a massive bonus for defeating high CP pokemon with low CP pokemon, and the highest CP pokemon of the 6 you bring to a battle determines if you get the bonus and how big the bonus will be.

1800 is a good number because most gym pokemon will be above that, but you can defeat most of them by choosing the correct cp1800 attacker.

Dewgong seems ideal for that, because if you only power it up to 1800 cp and not further, its just as good as lapras if it has the right moveset. You just need a bit more dust to get it to 1800, but the higher defense actually helps in that context.

I have a few of them. Recently evolved my 100% iv Seel into a Dewgong but it had an awful moveset.
That's unfortunate. Did it get Icy Wind? Because with Aqua Jet you can at least have it as a low/mid-tier defender.

I found a Seel nest, so I now have a Dewgong with Frost Breath/Blizzard and another with Frost Breath/Aqua Jet. Looking forward to taking on some Dragonites with the first one. What might the second one be useful for?

Ice Shard/Aqua Jet would be for defense, but I don't find Dewgong to be as useful a defender as it is for prestige leveling (due to its lower max CP).

Yep, Dewgong and Wigglytuff, they just "can't get no respect". They end up at the bottom of gyms, first to be kicked out.
