    Is it just me, or does Mew have no connection between the first movie and Lucario and the Mystery of Mew... It seems to me that they didn't realize that "Legendary pokemon" only have one of that kind so that mew must be the only one in both movies... but that theory also is changed at the end when you see two Latios. So what is happening in these movies is it just not following the game/anime/manga ?
     
    The TV series has acknowledged that the Legendaries aren't one of their kinds. We have OI Lugia and Whirl Islands Lugia, construct Entei and Groudon vs. the real deals, so obviously, there are two Mews. In the game canon, Mew hasn't been declared one of a kind, I don't think.

    And the anime ignores game canon left and right, so don't be shocked. Besides, Mew is known for its short attention span (first movie), maybe it forgot it met Ash or something. Heh.
     
    Here is the thing though...
    The stories with Mew and all the other legendary pokemon might be connected and much more understandable in the Japanese versions of the movies, as I have learned the differences with the Japanese and English versions, when they translate the movies into English, some of the lines and even some parts of the story either slightly or majorly change. So I'm guessing that in the English versions of the movies, they weren't as understandable than the stories in the Japanese versions.

    But that is out-of-continuity dub-wise with the main series' dubbing, so... I think in the original wave of movies, the rarity was true. But with the future Generations and genders, things change.

    So you're saying that there are only a few execptions in some of the cases of the legendaries?
     
    I haven't seen the first movie in a while... But didn't Ash and everyone forget the events of part one... Or am I mixing it up with a movie from a different series(I do that a lot D: )

    their might be more than one ledgend. ash apparantly catches all the pokemon making him a master. so their is more than likley mulitpul ledgends. mewtwo is the only one of a kind becasue it was designed to be a clone of mew, and man made.

    Yes, everyone in New Island (except for Team Rocket) are teleported back into the Pokemon Center from the beginning of the movie with all of their memories on New Island lost. I've watched the movie more than 50 times so I know my info.

    More likely the case, there are multiple legendaries in Pokemon in the game series if you have say... a Lugia from Silver and you face off a friend who also has a Lugia in their Silver, but this is the cause of the game, not the show which have great differences.
     
    The way the Anime portrays it, it seems like there are main Legendaries that are more powerful than ordinary Legendaries. For instance, in the Battle Frontier, the Articuno Ash beat was of course nowhere near as powerful as the one from the second movie. If it had been THAT one, he would've gotten leveled by it.
     
    Okay. My theory? Remember how at the end of the first movie, Mewtwo erases everyone's memory (except maybe Mew)? That could explain why Ash and co. wouldn't remember meeting w/ Mew (though they seemed to know who Mew was).

    As for Mew, someone else stated that it had a short attention span; that could be a factor, or perhaps Mew did recognize them, but knew that they didn't or couldn't remember him?

    I never really thought about it much until you mentioned it, though. Interesting.
     
    prehaps mewtwo's memory whip was'nt as permanent as they thought and they got bit's back and thats why the seemed to reconise him

    Possibly. I'm guessing months- years passed since their encounter w/ Mewtwo (didn't see the sequel to that movie though) and it might have faded w/ time.

    I figured that knowing of Mew's existence was common knowledge at this point or something, I guess.

    Nope, by right Ash is *still* 10 years old. Although he should be at least 12 by now =/

    lol yeah that's a very good theory. Or maybe he remembered but he rather have fun playing around with Pikachu. Mew is a very playful Pokemon after all.
     
    On a small note, Mewtwo did wipe everyone's memories even though Ash and friends met him again in Mewtwo Returns. Ash has to this date not recovered any memories of what happened in the first movie, nor the trainers he met, and his only sighting of Mew before the third Advance Generation movie was when he saw Mew at the pier at the end of the first movie.
