    Team Building Guide

A few tips before the guide

(I WILL BE UPDATING THE FIRST POST WITH CONTENT WHEN I POSSIBLY CAN)(The post 2 of this guide will take a VERY LONG TIME!. Instead of doing it here, i've decided to do it on Microsoft word on my computer, I will put it up as soon as I'm done)

    1. Please Have Some Knowledge Of Pokemon Battling Before Reading This

Please learn the more common movesets of the game before doing anything. Also make sure you have knowledge of IV's and EV's. Also be sure to know which natures do what and which moves are what. Also make sure you know type weakness and such. Now then, let's begin.

    2. Weaknesses?

Please be sure your pokemon team does not have many weakness. Try to keep the weaknesses on your team to a low level. For example, you don't want a team that a Ice Type Attack/Pokemon can take out 3 of your pokemon because their weak to Ice Attacks.

    3. What Every Team Should Be Like

A team should be mixed. Not just a team full of 1 type. A mixed team with know glaring weaknesses and can do many things. Teams usually have things like tanks that are made to take hits, and throw them as well. They also have offensive pokemon on the team that do their job by sweeping away opponents.

    4. Sweephaze!

Be sure your team has sweeping pokemon of course. These include things such as Garchomp and Electivire. There are designed to sweep away. Garchomp has the powerful attack Swords Dance to boost it's attack by 2 levels. Be sure to have a diverse moveset on your sweepers.

Also be sure to have a pokemon that can get rid of those nasty stat upping sweepers. So your opponent is using Garchomp as well eh? It had just Swords Danced. Well then use Roar or Haze to get rid of the stat boost and then destroy the pokemon. Your team may want this seeing how there are so many stat uppers out their.

    5. Status Is No Problem!

Status Effects on your pokemon can be a great devastation if used wisely. Your pokemon can Paralyze and Poison the opponent. Not to mention put to sleep. But so can your opponent! Be sure your pokemon can still do their thing with status effects. For example, an Aromatherapist (a pokemon with the move Aromatherapy) such as Blissey can use Aromatherapy to heal your team from status effects.

    6. Spikey Traps!

Spikes is also a move that can greatly effect your Pokemon's performance. There are 3 types of spikes.

Stealth Rock <- Used The Most

Spikes <- Used the Second Most

Toxic Spikes <- Used The least

Stealth Rock is used the most because 1 layer does the same damage as spikes 1 layer. Not only that, but it's the only spikes that can hit flying pokemon. And if their part flying, the damage dealth from Stealth Rock is even more damage! It can be set up to 1 layer.

Spikes was the move from Advance, and it's still used effectively. Mainly in combination with Stealth Rock to do even more damage. It's only regular, so no added effects I guess. Just does more damage. It can be set up to 3 layers.

Toxic Spikes is also one of the new spikes. Though it's not used as much as the first 2. What it does is poison the pokemon. It can get up to 3 layers. The 3rd layer is dangerous. It's poison is equivalent to the move Toxic.

    7. Wish and Support!

Wish is a very powerful move that can be used on your team to heal your pokemon. Vaporeon and Jirachi are common Wishers. So is Togekiss. Well, actually, "wishers" are actually called supporters. They support your team. They also set up barriers such as Reflect and Light Screen to resist moves even more! Not only on the individual pokemon, but your whole team!

    8. Rapid Spin

As you know, spikes is now a threat. Your team may want a pokemon to rapid spin spikes away. Starmie and Donphan do that just fine. Forretress as well. What if you set up spikes and you don't want your spikes sent away? You may want a good ghost pokemon on your team like Dusknoir. Why? Rapid Spin is ineffective against ghosts, and if it doesn't hit you, then the spikes aren't flown away.

    The Actual Guide

Hope you enjoyed the tips. Now then, shall I begin the rest of the guide?

    1. Choosing Your Pokemon Wisely

Choose your pokemon wisely. Like I said, make sure it doesn't have any weaknesses. Be sure to choose strong pokemon. Most people use OU pokemon. Ubers aren't used much unless they are allowed, which most people don't allow. But anyway, just choose wisely.

Be sure to check out their base stats. Their base stats tell which stats are guide and not, and these base stats are to be taken seriously.

    2. Type and Pokemon Weakness Examination

Examine your team and think of glaring type weaknesses. After that, think of pokemon weaknesses. Some pokemon are oftenly seen and some use a "standard" set which means that they use the usual set. These standard sets often are targeted on a lot of types. So be sure to remember some of those pokemon.

Here is a threat list that you should keep a eye on (I'll add to it):

Azelf Garchomp Salamence Weavile Rhyperior Gengar Alakazam Blissey Dusknoir Lucario Porygon-Z Swampert Heracross Togekiss Tyranitar Infernape Gyarados Electrivire Raikou Starmie Dugtrio Aerodactyl Snorlax Zapdos Suicune Sceptile Ninjask Metagross Celebii Jirachi Manaphy

    3. Choosing Your Moves

Moves are very important. Most used pokemon already have standard sets which have excellent movesets. You can easily find those analyses at https://m2a.wikispaces.com/analyses

Well then, here is a good example of a moveset:

    Weavile @ Choice Band
    Nature: Jolly
    -Ice Punch
    -Night Slash
    -Pursuit
    -Brick Break

It's a good overall pokemon. It takes down dragons and psychics of course. On the switch you can pursuit. Choice Band makes Weavile's power extremely powerful. The nature allows it to outspeed a lot of pokemon. Not to mention that it's base stats in attack and speed are excellent making this a very good pokemon..

    3. Items

Items are also a big role in the competitive metagame, and important to your Team. Be sure to choose them wisely. Here are some of the most used items in the game:

-Choice Band: Increases Attack by 1.5, but only allows you to use 1 move

-Choice Specs: Increases sp. Attack by 1.5 but only allows you to use 1 move

-Life Orb: Increases every move by 1.3 but decreases HP if the attack deals damage to the opponent

-Leftovers/Shell Bell: Heals HP each turn

-Focus Sash: If at full hp, and you take a massive hit, you endure 1 HP

-Expert Belt: Increases the damage of super effective hits

-Wise Glasses: Increases sp. Attack in a pinch

    4. Breeding

You may want a better pokemon on your team, meaning better IV's and nature. Breeding is very important and can help you out a lot. Here is a in-depth breeding guide I made:

    https://m2a.wikispaces.com/Breeding+Guide

    5. EV's

EV's are also a very important thing. Everyone wants to learn about the interesting topic of EV training. Many people discuss this topic on forums. Most people do not know the work you have to go through to EV train. Most think it's hard, or it doesn't matter, though it does matter - alot. Some of the things that you understand is that you need to do hard work. EV training is a thing that you shouldn't get lazy at. It can decide on weather you outspeed a pokemon or not. A guide on EV's by me can be found here: https://m2a.wikispaces.com/EV+Training+Guide

    6. IV's

Good IV's are main obtained by breeding or trading pokemon with other people. IV's as well are important and allow the whole game to change if you have good or bad IV's. Here is a guide: https://m2a.wikispaces.com/IV+Guide

    7. Natures

Natures are important also. So your pokemon is a special sweeper? So you don't need to use the attack stat correct? Then why do you have a +attack nature on your pokemon? What you want to do is breed a pokemon with a nature that supports special attack and speed so it can be powerful AND fast. So does this with other pokemon as well. Here is a list of natures:

    Bashful: Neutral
    Docile: Neutral
    Hardy: Neutral
    Quirky: Neutral
    Serious: Neutral
    Adamant: +Attack -Special Attack
    Brave: +Attack -Speed
    Lonely: +Attack -Defense
    Naughty: +Attack -Special Defense
    Bold: +Defense -Attack
    Impish: +Defense -Special Attack
    Lax: +Defense -Special Defense
    Relaxed: +Defense –Speed
    Mild: +Special Attack -Defense
    Modest: +Special Attack -Attack
    Quiet: +Special Attack -Speed
    Rash: +Special Attack -Special Defense
    Calm: +Special Defense -Attack
    Careful: +Special Defense -Special Attack
    Gentle: +Special Defense -Defense
    Sassy: +Special Defense –Speed
    Hasty: +Speed -Defense
    Jolly: +Speed -Special Attack
    Naïve: +Speed -Special Defense
    Timid: +Speed –Attack

    8. Wide Veriety Of Pokemon

You should get a wide veriety of pokemon rather than just 1 team. That way you can use different teams, change your team, and etc. You should also have a team for each category (OU, UU, Uber, etc). Please keep this in mind though.

    9. Conclusion

Well then, please build your competitive battling team wisely! I WILL BE UPDATING THIS WITH MORE CONTENT A.S.A.P.!

Please don't double post. Just edit it. XP

Please add that Life Orb takes 10% of the user HP whenever an attack does damage.

Also Stat Increasing Berries need to be added. Or am I the only one who uses then? ._.

I think you're the only one who uses them. =P
And it is perfectly fine for a person to double post if they are making a guide as long as it is for organization purposes.

Shell Bell does not heal HP every turn; it heals HP whenever you deal damage to the opponent. You might want to correct that. And where's Choice Scarf on that commonly used items list? And as Bleach and Sunshine already said, you might want to mention that Life Orb takes away 10% of the user's HP. You should also mention that Leftovers heals 1/16th of the holder's maximum HP and Shell Bell heals 1/8th of the damage dealt by the holder's attack. I'm also pretty sure you can only have 2 layers of Toxic Spikes, but I'm not completely sure of that.

Excellent guide! This Im sure will help alot of people, good work :D

Yes, the maximum layer of Toxic Spikes is 2.

First Layer= Summoned Pokemon are Poisoned

Second Layer = Summoned Pokemon are Toxic poisoned.

No contact with Flying type pokemon and pokemon with Levitate.

Poison Flying(Crobat) type or Poison type with Levitate (Weezing) = No contact with Poison Spikes.

Other Poison type pokemon will absorb the spikes when sent out.

    Stealth Rock Damage.

    Basic Damage = 12.5%

    Ice , Fire, Flying Types = 25%

Both of those types in 1 Pokemon (Charizard for example) = 50%

    Steel Type = 6.25%

    Fighting Type = 6.25%

Both Types in 1 Pokemon (Lucario for example) = 3.125%
