Monferno or Empoleon? (UU RMT) FULLY REVAMPED
Introduction
The merging of BL, UU, and NFE left some great, creative team options to make. This is my first team for the "new UU", and I can't wait to test it.
Making The Team Work
The old team consisted of a few pokemon thrown together. I decided to scrap all but one Pokemom- Mismagius- and build a team around it. I started off with things that wall Mismagius and counter it- Stall and any Specially based bulky normal, dark, or steel type. To solve these issues, I went for a mixed sweeper and a strong fighting type. Lickiliky made a good choice of an excellent sweeper, fitting the title of "Bulky Balance", which is what this team is about. Hariyama also fit the description, and came around as my fighting-type to break Chansey, Umbreon, etc. Next, I needed a special wall to wall special types, which my old team had suffered against. Chansey made a good choice, especially due to the fact that she can cleric with Aromatherapy. I decided to put up Stealth Rock to help cripple more fragile, offensive teams. I also wanted to try using a Tricksy fox for the first time. Claydol made an ideal choice, and was added on to the roster. Finally, to balance the team, I needed a bulky phyiscal sweeper. Since (the number 1 Gyarados counter) Rhyperior was in OU, it proved to be pretty challenging... until I took a break from revamping and read some battle logs. Luke's late-game clean-up with Ursaring and Ursaring's bulk took me by surprise, so I decided to go for it.
THE TEAM ITSELF
Claydol- Stealth Rock abuser, TrickBander
Hariyama- Psuedo-physical wall, keeps bulky normals, darks and steels in check. Serves as a great counter role for Mismagius.
Mismagius- Special sweeper, late game clean-up.
Ursaring- Physical Sweeper, can clean-up late game or terrorize early on
Altaria- Stall Breaker, keeps Mismagius from being countered by Stall
Chansey- Stops special threats from terrorizing this team
Claydol @ Choice Band
Adamant Nature- Levitate
252 Atk/ 252 HP/ 6 Sp. Def
Trick
Stealth Rock
Earthquake
Zen Headbutt
Although this set came from D_A, I found out by myself why it could be so effective. Claydol has identical attack and special attack stats, and EQ packs a lot more power than EP. Trick gets rid of the Choice Band, but allows me to item scout a little, possibly gain a Sash, and then throw up some rocks.
Hariyama @ Leftovers
Impish Nature- Thick Fat
252 Def/ 76 HP/ 108 Atk
Earthquake
Knock Off
Force Palm
Stone Edge
Mismagius's main problems come from Muk and special walls that can take Shadow Ball, namely Bulky darks, normals, and steels(Girafarig also resists lol). Hariyama can dispatch most of these threats, hitting Muk with EQ hard, crippling sweepers with Knock Off on the switch, Force Palming and parahaxing the opponent, or hitting Flyers- namely Staraptor- who think ZOMG HAIRYMAMA IS FAIL LOL with Stone Edge.
Mismagius @ Leftovers
Timid Nature- Levitate?
108 HP/ 180 Atk/ 220 Spe
Calm Mind
Substitute
HP Fighting
Shadow Ball
The late-game clean up sweeper, Mismagius can terrorize once Hairymama and Lickilicky clear its threats out of the way. Substitute blocks status, Calm Mind boosts up Special Attack, giving Mismagius MOAR POWAH, and the (hit all types for neutral) Ghost/Fighting Combo makes an appearance.
Ursaring @ Choice Band
Adamant Nature-Guts
252 Atk/ 234 HP/ 12 Def/ 12 Sp. Def
Return/Body Slam
Crunch
Earthquake
Fire Punch
Inspired by Luke (The guy with the long name about Ursaring for those of you that don't know), Urasring makes a scary phyiscal sweeper that adds on to the scaring of Mismagius' counters. I really want to put Hammer Arm in there somewhere, but can't find a spot. What do you think, Mr. Rater Who Wants To Tear This Team Apart Until The OP Dies?
Altaria @ Life Orb
Mild Nature
112 Atk/ 252 Spa/ 144 Spe
Draco Meteor
Dragon Claw
Fire Blast
Earthquake/Roost
Altaria covers up an extreme fighting weak, and also helps to break several walls. Draco Meteor slams everything bar Steel/Rocks and Mawile, who die to Fire Blast or EQ. I'm opting for the power drop from Outrage to Dragon Claw to prevent lock-ins, which can give Altaria problems. Unfortunately, Altaria suffers from moveslot syndrome, since it can't do much to steels without EQ, but its SR weak wants Roost on the moveset somewhere, especially with LO recoil.
Chansey @ Leftovers
Calm Nature- Natural Cure
252 Def/ 180 HP/ 76 Sp. Def
Aromatherapy
Softboiled
Seismic Toss
Toxic
Guess what? This guy can take care of some stall as well with Toxic! She also stops T-Spikes and T-Wave from crippling my team with Aromatherapy. If she only had special attack like Blissey's...
Changes:
-Subbed out MixLickilicky for MixAltaria
THreats:
The biggest concerns to this team are Gallade and Poliwrath. Gallade terrorizes with SD/CC/Night Slash/Ice Punch orStone Edge, and Poliwrath's Belly Drum set leaves Hariyama quaking in fear from everything besides Ice Punch/Stone Edge. CB Primeape is also a terror, as are most fighting types, even with Claydol and Altaria being able to resist them.
Pokemon that can't be subbed out and replaced:
Hariyama: This guy holds the team practically together, shrugging off Ice Punch's and Stone Edges that my team can't handle, as well as clearing most of theway for Mismagius.
Mismagius: This guy is the central core of the team, and the late-game sweeper.
Alternatives I am considering:
Uxie: Uxie is much bulkier than Claydol, and can still pull off a Trick/SR combo. Its much bulkier defenses also come in handy.
Blaziken: Probably the best stall breaker in UU today, Blaziken can destroy stall. If I replace Claydol with Uxie, Altaria isn't needed.
Muk: Can serve as a fighting resist AND a Special wall.
Vileplume: If Chansey is kicked off the team, this can serve as a cleric.
Mesprit: Has plenty of bulk and power to make a nice Choice Bander as well.
