Mortal Blood
Plot
The Pokemon World. A nice enough place, for those who like adventures, anyhow. Gyms, Elite Fours, Pokemon, Trainers, Rangers... All very nice things for people with an insatiable spirit for adventure and excitement. An interesting thing, though; a trainer and a Pokemon, joined together by nothing but spirit, emotions, hard work and trials.
They don't have that particular liberty.
They are the poor people who have been twisted and corrupted into creatures forced to feed upon their own kind- The Vampires. Supposedly a mythical creature, they are far more. Yes, say this is the ravings of a madman. But I know. Because I've SEEN them.
These creatures are abominations. Their unnatural strength and speed is an affront to all that is pure. These creatures have to be exterminated at all costs. No-one believes that they exist, but I know they do, and I call upon any brave soul who cares about either people or Pokemon to lay their lives and souls on the line for the safety of all the world, and I pledge they become Vampire hunters, to kill these hideous beings and end their miserable existance. Forever.
Vampires have key strengths and weaknesses that any Hunter should know. They suck the blood of humans, as it supposedly sustains them more, what with it being compatible with their DNA. But should they feed on the blood of certain types of Pokemon, they can gain their abilities for a limited time, and the Vampire's key weapon; They are incredibly powerful, and incredibly fast. A human could seemingly drop dead in the middle of thenight, with slashes on it's neck, and the only clue is a faint shadow that rushes by. However, these creatures are not invincible. They are extremely allergic to sunlight and garlic, but these things won't kill them, just make them weaker than a newborn child. When they haven't fed for over a weak, they are desperate, and easy to predict. Killing Vampires is incredibly noble, but a dangerous occupation. Pokemon are the way forward. Vampires have an innate weakness to fire, so a fire Pokemon can be invaluable, but any Pokemon can be a powerful asset to a hunter. Tread carefully, noble Hunter.
- From The Scourge, a book on hunting and killing Vampires.
It should be noted that the author of this book disappeared the week after it was published.
The truth is, Vampires can be terrifying and vicious demons, and they can slaughter and kill as many people as possible in the space of a few nights. Many of them resent people and Pokemon for not helping them, and feel it is their fault, and so wreak an awful revenge. But this is not always the case.
Vampires can be normal, ordinary civilians, feeding on humans but not killing them, just taking some blood and then leaving them alive. These are masters of deception, but usually have no concern but to live and survive unnoticed like a normal human, and some even take on the company of Pokemon.
Then there are the hidden Vampiric heroes, people who spurn blood and try to use their powers for good. They refuse to feed on people or Pokemon, and save lives, help building houses, heal people. However, the lack of blood often leads to one of two things- either the vampire literally fades away, or they go on a horrific rampage, unaware of what they are doing until they have consumed enough blood to restore them to their senses, by which time they usually have killed many many people. This is usually put down to a disease outbreak, but the real reason is there.
Until recently, Vampirism has been a deadly secret, but still just an object of fiction, and the only people who took it seriously were insane. But things are about to change.
A mysterious ruby, known as the Blood Ruby, was once the weapon of a famous Vampire Hunter. It sealed away a vampiric presence, killing the host human in the process, but the vampire is trapped forever, unable to cause harm. Now, this Ruby has been singing it's seductive song- calling weaker willed vampires to free their kin on Mt. Coronet, where a dark rite would be completed to free these vampires. There were thousands of spirits trapped in the rub, so having them all freed would destroy the population of Sinnoh in days. This threat that could destroy civilizations and strike fear into the heart of billions is unknown to the world.
As such, this weapon is held in high regard by the selfish and corrupt, who have amassed an order who call themselves The Brotherhood of Blood, and are commonly known throughout the vampiric world as villainous, rogueish and cruel. Any humans who are captured by this syndicate are assessed on their physical technique, strength and disregard for others. They are the scourge of all that is good. Their leader is the infamous Felon Sharpe, a vampire of pure darkness and bloodlust.
Another side to the vampire struggle for the Ruby is the Order of The Bloodless. A noble and kindly alliance who spare and protect humans, while understanding they need the blood of those they protect. Very rarley a volunteer from the ranks of their allies will come forward and regularly donate blood to the Order. Other than that, the Order feeds on humans from the lands they protect, but very sparingly, keeping each human well enough to go about their daily lives. Their leader is Vicente Volera, an old, wise and heroic vampire, who believes that vampires, humans, and Pokemon could live together in harmony if they worked for it.
The third faction is The Wisefangs, who are more of a family than a faction. They believe that the only people who matter are each other, and value highly education and knowledge. Their opinion regarding the ruby varies within the clan, but general consensus is that more vampires means less blood for the family. They would say they have no leader, but in truth, all things are run past by Vladimir Drakon, who holds the family by a thread, ready to cut it when he no longer needs them.
Then, of course, there are the hunters, humans who track down and kill vampires. They often use Pokemon to help in this task, but some simply use crossbows and stakes. In truth, a far more effective weapon would be Pokemon and Modern weapons; while it is true Vampires need to be staked through the heart, this can be done by any object, and they have no aversion to religious symbols. There are several Hunter Syndicates that provide aid for hunters, but there are so many, it is impossible to name many, and they are very secretive.
You
You are either a vampire, who was lucky enough to partner with a Pokemon, cursed with this affliction for eternity and forced to wonder the world in an eternal hunt for blood, when you hear the song of the ruby from Johto, and decide what to do next… Or you are a human who chooses to become a vampire hunter, determined to end the vampiric scourge. Will the vampires be free to prey on the world at large? Will you, as a vampire, seek the rewards of helping your trapped brothers? Or will you take the path of virtue and try and stop the world that fears and hates your myth from total destruction? As a hunter, will you fight to destroy all vampires you see? Will you spare the good and slaughter the evil? Or will you perhaps become one of what you fear? All will be revealed...
You don't start off as part of any faction or syndicate, but you may end up joining one sooner or later...
