Serebii.net has inspired me to make my own pokemon of the week, and not to copy them, but I want to use their format. So from now on, every Sunday or Monday I will make my own Pokemon of the week.

    DRAGONITE
It is said to make its home somewhere in the sea. It guides crews of shipwrecks to shore.

Alright. Not my favorite, but nevertheless, a great pokemon. Like Garchomp, Metagross, Slamence and Tyranitar, Dragonite has a total base stat of 600. With this, comes a monsterous atttack stat, managable sp. atk, and defenses strong enough to take a non STAB boosted special effective attack (such as Dragon pulse and Stone Edge) and not fainting. The only stat that lets this Dragon down is it's speed at a base of 80. But this can be taken care of.
On a side note, like a lot of Dragons, Dragonite has a 400% weakness to ice, and a 200% to Dragon, and like Salamence and Altaria a 200% to rock.

    Trait:

Inner Focus: Dragonites only ability. Yeah it's not too often where you actually see this coming into use. Fake out can be used but isn't too common in the Standard enviornment. Air Slash is usually beat out by Drill peck and Brave Bird, and Dark Pulse is less popular than Crunch.

    Movesets

    Dragon Dancer

    -Dragon Dance
    -Earthquake/roost
    -Dragon Claw
    -Brick Break/Thunderpunch/Fire Punch

    Items attached: Leftovers/Life Orb
    Trait: Inner Focus
    EVs and Nature:
    EV: 252 atk/252 spd/4 hp
    Adamant nature/Jolly nature

A Physical sweeper, the Dragon Dancer Dragonite is the basic way to go with Dragonite. One Dragon Dance will boost that already huge attack stat, and will outrun every key Pokemon to the 120+ base speed stat.
Dragon Claw gives Dragonite a powerful STAB option and is a necessity.
Earthquake takes out many key pokemon, Tyranitar in particular
The 4th spot is a filler. Brick Break has good type coverage and in particular takes out Weavile and has potential to OHKO Blissey. Thunderpunch takes out Skarmory and Milotic, while Fire Punch takes out both Skarmory and Bronzong, and takes care of Weavile most of the time.
If your Dragnoite has Fire Punch, then one could make the argument that Earthquake isn't necessary in which you could give you Dragonite Roost.

Items are split. Leftovers recover whatever damage Dragonite takes in the turn where it sets up Dragon Dance. But Dragonite is bulky enough to take on attacks while taking damage from life orb.

    Choice-Nite

    -Outrage
    -Earthquake
    -Stone edge/Fire punch/thunderpunch/Brick break
    -Stone edge/Fire punch/thunderpunch/Brick break

    Items attached: Choice Band/Choice Scarf
    Trait: Inner Focus
    EVs and Nature:
    EVs: 252 atk/252 spd/
    Adamant nature/ Jolly Nature

Choice-Nite is another powerful route to go with Dragonite. Choice Scarf is the much more viable way to go with Dragonite because with CB, Dragonite can get 2, 3 max OHKOs and then faint because it's too slow.
So with choice Scarf, Outrage, is the perfect way to go. It still is STAB boosted and has 120 power. Although it stops after 2-3 turns and confuses the user, thats when you switch anyway.
All other moves in the move set have already been brought up except for Stone Edge. Stone edge takes out many key pokemon and is pretty powerful.

    Specs-nite

    -Dragon Pulse
    -Ice Beam/Flamethrower/Thunderbolt/Focus Blast
    -Ice Beam/Flmethrower/thunderbolt/Focus Blast
    -Draco Meteor

    Items attached: Choice Specs
    Trait: Inner Focus
    EVs and Nature: 252 spd/252 sp. atk/hp
    Modest nature/Jolly Nature

Dragonite has a fantastic special moveset and perfectly viable sp. atk to be used as a special sweeper. The only problem with this set is that it's speed is still horrible. However, if you went with a specs Dragonite, that's what it probably would look like.
Dragon Pulse is a given. STAB boosted special attack.
Draco meteor is an incredibly powerful move that can be used for Dragonite to easily OHKO an opponent.
As for the other 2 spots, it's your decision to choose how it will work on your team. Flamethrower takes out steel types, but doesn't do much else, Thunderbolt works on Bulky Water types such as Milotic, Ice beam blows away Hippowdon and Torterra while Focus Blast focuses (Pun intended) on Weavile.

    Sweeper

    -Dragon Claw/Outrage
    -Fire Punch/Thunderpunch/Brick Break
    -Earthquake/Roost
    -Agility
    Items: Leftovers/Life Orb
    Trait: Inner Focus
    Evs and Nature
    evs: 252 atk/252 spd/4hp
    Adamant Nature/Jolly Nature

Agility doubles Dragonites speed allowing it to pretty much outrun any pokemon in the Standard enviornment. A great way to go with Dragonite.

Dragon Claw and Outrage are arguable. This time around, there is no attack boost so you may want an STAB move with a little more punch.
Earthquake takes care of a lot of key pokemon and if you don't feel you need Earthquake you can always teach roost.
Again Fire Punch, Brick Break and thunderpunch are all options according to how necessary you think they are.

    EVs and Nature
For Dragonite, you want to go with a 252/252 split. Speed must always be half of it, and the other is usually attack unless you are going with the specs in which case it's sp. atk.

Natures: simple. Jolly or Adamant. Usually, I would go for Jolly, to boost Dragonites terrible speed but in the "sweeper" moveset, there is nothing boosting attack, and with full EVs and an agility boost, speed is high enough so I would go with Adamant.

    Other options

Aerial Ace, Thunder wave, Focus Punch, Aqua Tail, Rock Slide

Aerial Ace is a reliable STAB attack. However, It's weak and Flying attacks are weak anyways.
Thunder Wave is another answer to the Speed deficiency. It sharply lowers speed, and gives the opponent a chance at not attacking.
Focus punch is an alternative to brick break and a good Blissey counter but requires prediction, and most people know Dragonites potential so they want to get it out of the way as soon as possible with attacks.
Aqua tail Is a powerful water attack, but water has pretty poor type coverage and most of what it does cover, Earthquake takes out anyway.
Rock Slide is jsut a weaker, more reliable alternative to Sone Edge.

    Countering Dragonite

Dragonite can be hard to predict. You don't want to switch out of him on his first turn out, because that gives him a chance to set-up Dragon Dance/Agility. The best route is a quick Pokemon that can dish out a powerful, super-effective attack.
The best Nemesis, is the aformentioned Weavile. Weavile can run in, and finish off Dragonite with an Ice Punch. Others in this category include Choice Scarf Heracross with Stone Edge, and an Aerodactyl with Ice Fang.
Powerhouses Salamence and Garchomp can quickly run in and before any set up knock it out with a Dragon attack. Flygon, to a smaller extent can too.
Without Earthquake, Heatran can walk in with no trouble
Without Fire Punch, There's not much Dragonite can do about Bronzong, and if it lacks Thunderpunch it can't do anything about Skarmory either. Porygon-Z Can also take out Dragonite with an ice beam.

seems like a decently good idea, but don't we have the pokemon discussion already? anyway in the counters section most of the time 'nite comes out when most of its counters are dead (mainly the steels that wall it) It IS a clean-up/late-game (whatever u call it) sweeper and a very good one at that...

I'm actually looking foward to it. And Weavile can also be a clean-up late game to counter Dragonite.

Who should I do next week? I'm thinking Bronzong!

Honestly, although I've never actually fought somebody who knows what they're doing in the game in real life, I've spent a fair bit of time on Wi-fi in the battle tower and I've never come a cross a Dragonite. Would Dragonite be considered in the Standard enviornment or the UU. Also, how does a non-legendary pokemon become an Uber?

dnite is used in standard envoirnment, only its A LOT better in 6vs6, it can't really in 3Vs3, but generaly relies more on luck which is why I don't like the BT that much, the inly non-legend uber is wabafett, its really cheap w/ encore and just yeah...

Eww....all the bold and stuff does is ruining the text really. Brick Break is an lol move on itself. Focus Punch is the better Brick Break. It 0HKOings Blissey (something Salamence cannot do) and just hits harder.

The Agility set is lol. There is a reason Dragon Dance is there.

Outrage is a must on the DD set or else Salamence totally outclasses it.

The EVs need some work. Not everything works with a 252/252/4 EV spread.

Lack of a Mixed sweeper and a SubPunch set really saddens me. Also, there needs to be a support set with Haze/Heal Bell from Pokemon XD.

But you have to admit, it is just like Serebii, with that lack of better options.

Brick break takes down light screen and reflect, hurting cress badly and also focus punch isn't the best with him because most attack nite.

There is also a reason for agility

I find that some don't see the reasons in some sets now.

Maybe if you would actually tell us the reason for agility that post would be more helpful :/

No, agility is just no on Dragonite, flamehaze is right. Seriously, there is no purpose in trying to up its speed when you can up its speed AND attack.

And how in the world does brick break hurt Cressi bad when it resists it? O_o

Though for the record flamehaze, 252/252/4 works fairly well on DDnite. There are better spreads, but if you're too lazy to use them then that is the next best thing.
