Actually, he just took the original sprites, and C+P'd other sprites onto them.
Rather simple, and he didn't even change that much.

And on the Lee+Chan recolor, you forgot to get rid of PE2K's black block.

here are some Trainers sprites that I recolors:

The last sprite has very bright hair. Hurts my eyes a bit, but it's just me. I think you should try to work on some outlines and maybe some shading. Still not really bad.
