So I've been playing SoulSilver for a while now and I can't seem to beat the Elite Four with my team:

    Pidgeot (lvl 38):
    Wing Attack
    Fly
    Gust
    Roost

    Feraligatr (lvl 45):
    Hydro Cannon
    Crunch
    Surf
    Cut

    Ampharos (lvl 40):
    ThunderShock
    Discharge
    Focus Punch
    ThunderPunch

    Lugia (lvl 49):
    Extrasensory
    Rain Dance
    Hydro Pump
    Aeroblast

    Rapidash (lvl 41):
    Flame Wheel
    Stomp
    Fire Spin
    Fire Blast

    Onix (lvl 37):
    Rock Smash
    Strength
    DragonBreath
    Iron Tail

Can someone help me devise a plan with this team or suggestions. I trained really hard with these guys and I have faith in them. Just need some help.

First of all, buying about twenty Revives and twenty Hyper Potions or Full Restores will be a tremendous help.

Secondly, a couple things I notice about your team are:

    - Pidgeot is dead weight without Brave Bird and Return.
    - From the looks of it, you made your Feraligatr an HM slave and the wrong kind at that. Feraligatr is a physical pokemon and should have a moveset as such. You only have Crunch. Try Waterfall, Earthquake, and Ice Punch.
    - Ampharos only has two moves as far as I'm concerned. Ditch Thundershock and Thunder Punch (Ampharos isn't a physical pokemon) for on of the following: Signal Beam, Thunder Wave, Hidden Power (really depends on the type). Or you can make Ampharos a support pokemon as it can set up both screens.
    - Not much you can do about Lugia. Just send him in and spam Aeroblast and Hyrdo Pump when necessary. You can give him Ice Beam to sweep Lance with.
    - Rapidash falls in the same boat as Ampharos. Ditch Flame Wheel and Fire Spin for Megahorn and Flare Blitz. You can also replace Fire Blast with Bounce.
    - I'd suggest replacing Onix, or evolving him. You need a wall to hide behind as you heal and revive pokemon.

This isn't Gen III anymore. Type isn't associated with physical/special, but moves individually are.

In other words, if a pokemon has a higher Sp. att, give it special attacks, and the opposite for physical attacks. For example, what's the point of surf and hydro cannon on feraligator? Its special att sucks compared to its physical. Same logic applies to ampharos.

Dislike HM moves on main fighting pokemon. Keep one or two HM slaves instead.

VARIETY. I can't emphasize this more. Don't give a pokemon 2 fire moves or 2 water moves. Give it MANY different types of moves. And always take advantage of STAB. Look at your Onix. No ground or rock moves? (I would evolve it if I were you)

    IMO Feraligator shouldn't have cut...
Pidgeot needs something other than flying moves
