Well, Since I haven't been here for quite some time, I'm guessing my old Gallery has been closed, so here's my new one.

I have been very busy recently, so haven't done many recently but have been doing a couple. And editing quite few, and experimenting with effects and stuff, so yeah. I shall update every four days to a week (roughly). Please, no harsh critisism with out an improvement to back it up.

Well, first, I'll show you what was in my old Gallery:

There you go. Most of the new ones have either just had a border added, or a slight adjustment otherwise, so I don't expect they are much better than the ones from my old set, but I will have more, NEW, up soon.

What program do you use? If you use gimp I am planning to write a tutorial for my type of icons for gimp.

Hmm.. I wouldn't really call your new icons as new to be honest.

Instead of just getting an image and adding some text and itty bit of lighting, you should experiment more. I don't really like the font you've used for your icons quite frankly, the placements of where they are kinda clash with the image itself. Some of the text on some of the icons seem really noticable and distract away from the image, as others are barely seeable.

Icons need to be eye catching and have a variety of colours. Anyone can get an image and add text really, to make an icon that someone would actually use as their avatar is a whole other story.

There are many icon making tutorials you can find online, perhaps you should try one out?

Ok, fair enough. I'll have a look for some tuts and try them out.

    @ Tezna I use Photoshop CS2, I intend to get CS5 though.

EDIT: Before I carry on with making them in this style, could I get this Icon I just made rated? Is it better than the rest?

I liked 130x130. I wanted to try that instead of the usual. I think it turned out nice. I'm going to try some more tuts for a while, and see what else I come up with.

Basically what Aizuke said, for the rest.

As for this there's something that just feels wrong about it. Firstly, the text blends in too much and mixes with the animal. Using an underline makes it look unprofessional - because it isn't needed. You shouldn't have used text there, because that icon could have been fine without text - maybe if it was contrasted a little more and the background blurred a little more, too. Even still, if you wanted to use text, you could have changed the positioning to behind the animal, while sort of cutting it out and using a different background instead of just editing the original stock.

Anyway, that's just what my opinion is, so yeah. It's hard to explain, but you'll find out a style that suits you, that looks really nice soon enough. Just change around the text positioning and how you edit the stock and you should improve!
