Mysterious Fossil Retired After Eight Years

Take a look at the Moon Hunting/Night Dashing set lists. Omanyte, Kabuto and Aerodactyl now have three very similar, yet very new companions: Helix Fossil, Dome Fossil and Old Amber. Eight years, half a dozen reprints and one major rewording later, Mysterious Fossil has been retired.

What are your thoughts on this? For better, for worse or just indifferent?

Due to Mysterious Fossil being in EX Power Keepers, they will only be unusable as of 1 September 2008. Should have made myself clearer, but by retired, I meant that it won't be printed in future sets.

I'm rather ambivalent, as I've ran my share of Fossil decks (oh, I loved that Dark Omastar). I understand where they're coming from, as the newer Fossil cards have become more specific with their matching Basic cards. But then, I liked the one-size-fits-all of the Mysterious Fossil card. Not to mention, it's an easy, cheap alternative for a Fossil (good luck to those who searched for Skyridge's awesome Buried Fossil card), and to me, that's all that matters.

Logically, I get it, but there is something wrong, here, and I'm not sure why. Hmm.

......I'm really shocked at this. After EIGHT YEARS it's retiring? ............

Actually, now that I think of it...we'll probably get a replacement that covers ALL of the fossils soon enough, so no worries ^_^.

I play this game scarcly so i am assuming you are talking about the mysterious fossil from the sandstorm set.

I really liked the cradly card from the sandstorm starter. truthfully I never knew how mysterious fossil actually worked though!

Mysterious Fossil was in about five other sets apart from Sandstorm, its first appearance being in Fossil in 1999. It was used to bring Omanyte, Kabuto and Aerodactyl into play.

Charaxes: It's probably because of the new Fossil rules. Instead of rewording one Fossil yet again, it's probably easier in the long term to just release three new fossils. No doubt they'll also reword Root Fossil and Claw Fossil when Pokémon Card Game DP5 comes around in a few months.

The new fossil rules totally messed up this card. I'm not too bothered, only the Sandstorm versions of the evolutions were really playable xD

Right. I'm just objecting because of nostalgia's sake. Or "why didn't they just set up the other Fossils in Sandstorm?" The game was being rebooted at the time (Skyridge's elaborate tone vs. the lack thereof with R/S), so it could have been a good way to deal with all that, then. And that's neither here nor there.

Wondering about the Poke-Bodies, now that you got me thinking about it.

    There were Mysterious Fossils in:

    Fossil
    Legendary Collection
    Sandstorm
    Legend Maker
    Holon Phantoms

In a box of SS, I got about 30 copies.

Maybe they'll revive Buried Fossil, as they did for Master Ball (a good card). Heh. I forgot about the Fossils being in the Holon sets. Of course, I ignored the Holon sets, so serves me right. Heh.

30 in SS? I don't want to know how many I have from that set (brought five boxes). Eegah.
