Eh, I just figured I'd post one of my lame stories here. I'm actually in the process of writing the fourth chapter for this, but I have yet to add forum codes to any of the chapters other than the first. So those will be posted later.

Now, first thing's first: This will be SasuSaku. Sasuke x Sakura. In the future chapters, anyway. It could take a while.

Second: It wasn't smart of me to start with a mission in the beginning, since I'm not good at writing them (bad first impression), but please bare with me. It'll get a little better later on, I believe.

Lastly: Alert me of any grammatical mistakes, please! They annoy me greatly. Grawr...

    So, finally:

    Chapter One: New Mission

Sakura stood in front of the door to the Hokage's office. She raised her hand to knock, then hesitated. The entire day she'd been planning on coming, and the entire day she'd been nervous. Nervous about confronting a person as important and powerful as the Hokage, and nervous about how Sasuke would react to her doing this…

As Sakura stood in front of the door, she felt like she was betraying her friend. The previous night, Sasuke had planned to leave to Leaf Village and go to Orochimaru. She'd been able to convince him otherwise... somehow. He promised he'd stay in the village. She promised not squeal on him.

Suddenly, she felt terrible for even considering alerting the authorities about Sasuke's almost-defection.

He promised he wouldn't leave. Sakura didn't think he'd break his promise… But thinking about how close she'd come to breaking hers, she couldn't be positive. I'll… just keep an extra close eye on him! She decided, quietly walking away from the door before anyone noticed she had been there. She hoped Sasuke was more trustworthy then she was.

To Sasuke, it felt like Naruto had been talking for hours. And he probably had been. There was almost no way to get Naruto to stop talking, once he found a topic he liked. And he'd found one: ramen.

"… then I tried the extra noodle one, but I didn't think is was as good, since you couldn't taste the other flavors as well, ya'know? So I went back to normal old not extra noodle."

"Naruto… for the last time, I don't care about ramen."

    "Wha—Well, why not?!"

"I just don't! Talking about it doesn't interest me. Get it through your thick skull, loser."

    There was a short pause.

"… Have you ever tried the hearty chicken kind?"

Sasuke let out a groan of frustration.

"Well, it would appear you two have finally calmed down," Kakashi commented, nodding at Naruto and Sasuke.

"I totally would have won the fight if you hadn't butt in, Sensei," Naruto complained.

    Sasuke scoffed. "In your dreams."

Sakura decided to intervene, before an argument started. "Um, Kakashi-sensei? Could we just get our mission now?" She really just wanted to forget about the fight between Sasuke and Naruto on top of the hospital.

"Our mission. Right." Kakashi turned away from the other three and started walking. When he was a few feet away he turned around to look at them. "Well? Are you coming or not?"

"We have several missions available for Team Seven. Although Kakashi won't be able to participate in any of them," Tsunade said, looking through a stack of papers on her desk.

    Naruto blinked. "Huh?"

"Lady Hokage, why won't Kakashi-sensei be able to participate…?" Sakura asked, a confused expression crossing her face.

"We have other missions we need him to complete. You know the state this village is in. We need all Jonin to be doing either A- or S-ranked mission at this moment. Even Chunin and Genin are being given higher ranked missions. You three will be getting either a B- or C-rank mission. Kakashi can't waste his time on that now."

"B? Seriously?" Naruto exclaimed, suddenly excited. "What kind of mission is it?! C'mon, tell us, tell us!"

"Patience, Naruto, I'll get to that," The Hokage sighed. She then handed Kakashi a piece of paper, a large 'S' printed in the corner of it. "This is your mission. I expect you to report back before the week is over. Understood?"

"Yes, Lady Hokage," Kakashi replied, before disappearing.

"So? Where's our awesome B-rank mission?" Naruto asked, growing impatient.

"I said B or C. Don't get ahead of yourself."

"What are the available missions?" Sasuke asked.

"There are three. First is an escort mission. Protecting a small family on their way to The Land of Waves. Second is searching the park in the middle of town. We have reason to believe there may be land mines, or something else that would be just as dangerous."

"Why do you believe that?" Sasuke inquired, raising his eyebrow.

"I'll fill you in if you take the mission, otherwise there's no reason for me to get into it. The third mission is schooling several academy students on chakra concentration. Why it's important, and how to properly control chakra—"

"How the hell is that even a C-rank?!" Naruto yelled.

"It's not. But no one else wants to do it."

"We'll take the escort mission," Sasuke said.

"Hey, thanks for consulting the rest of us," Naruto grumbled.

"What mission would you have taken?"

"I—well… It's just the idea of—Oh, shut up, Sasuke!"

    "Sakura?" Sasuke looked at her.

    "That sounds fine to me."

    "Good."

Tsunade handed them the paper. It had a B in the corner. "I'll be sending one other ninja with you, to make it a squad of four."

Sakura nodded. It made sense. "Okay, so who's coming with us?"

    "Ino Yamanaka."

"WHAT? But… Why her?! Isn't there anyone else?"

    "No."

"… Can't we just do the mission with three people?" Sakura asked hopefully.

"Again, no," Tsunade said flatly, "Ino will be here momentarily. Just have seat until she gets—"

At that moment the door burst open, and Ino danced into the room.

    Tsunade smiled. "Right on time."

Ino gave a small bow. "Lady Hokage," she said politely, before turning to Team Seven. "Heya, Sasuke!" She yelled, pouncing on him. She turned her head slightly to look at the other two. "Hello, Naruto and…" She glowered in Sakura's direction. "Sakura." A look of disgust crossed her face as she stuck her tongue out at her rival.

"Zip it, Ino-pig! And get your filthy hands off Sasuke!"

"Oh? Why don't you come and make me, billboard-brow?"

"Maybe I will," Sakura growled, cracking her knuckles.

Naruto sighed. This is gonna suck, he decided.

"Ino. Get off of me," Sasuke said, giving her a small push.

Ino blinked, releasing her grasp around Sasuke. He'd never actually told her to get off before. Normally he just ignored the fact that she was clinging to him, or rolled his eyes and waited for her to get off herself.

Tsunade was growing impatient. She slammed her fist down on the desk. "You four! Concentrate! Your clients are scheduled to be here in an hour. Be sure you're completely prepared, then return here." Her eyes narrowed. "Understood?"

"Yes, ma'am," Sakura replied nervously. She could feel a bead of sweat trickle down her back.

"Good. I'm assigning Sasuke to be the squad leader."

"What?! Why?!" Naruto yelled in outrage, "Why him? Why not me?!"

"… Do I really need to give a reason?"

Forty-five minutes later, Sakura stood outside of the Hokage's office, waiting for the others to arrive. Sasuke came a couple minutes later, then Ino… and then Naruto, after nearly half an hour.

When Naruto finally came up to the group, panting, Sasuke smacked the side of his head. "What took you so long, idiot?"

"I had trouble finding some stuff," Naruto admitted. "… Like clothes."

"dang it, Naruto, you only have one outfit."

"Hey! I have two! They just look simila—Exactly the same."

    Sasuke rolled his eyes. "Loser."

"Oh? And how many outfits do you have? You wear the same thing everyday, too, Sasuke!"

"Yes, but I don't have trouble finding my one outfit."

"Whatever. You're just jealous." Naruto turned stubbornly away from Sasuke.

"Jealous? Of what? Your abnormal ability to be stupid?"

Naruto growled, but before he could pummel Sasuke, Sakura grabbed the collar of his shirt and dragged him into the building.

"That enough, you two," she said. Why am I the only sane one on this team? She wondered, sighing.

    Thar ye go.
