4th Gen natures, characteristics... help plz

in the poke strategy guide, it mentions natures (which nature boosts a stat or lowers, or neutral). then it mentions characteristics... e.g. stubborn, quirky etc. it says that characteristics boosts a stat (just one). so if i have a nature that takes away form one stat, if the characteristic boosts that stat do they cancel eachother out, resulting in no change to the stat. help Plz

o_o; As far as I know, "natures" and "characteristics" are the same thing, since the characteristics you mentioned are natures. So you wouldn't be able to cancel out the stat changes like that.
