Three friends and I plan to play Pokemon HS/SS together. My question is what is a competitive team in HS/SS and what is a good starter? I'm inclined to take Chicorita (forgetting the spelling, I've not played Pokemon since highschool back when silver and gold came out originally) as it's the coolest looking in my opinion, but I'm wanting a team that is actually able to player vs player very well. I'm not that worried about difficulty in game against the NPCs as I assume any team that can beat other players can surely eventually do it against NPCs as well.

I've browsed the forum and can't seem to find anything mentioning an optimized team. Simply people stating what teams they ARE using. Is there a min/max section? Feel free to move this if i put it in the wrong section.

Thank you for your time. =)

Um, I think you've got the wrong section, padre. You'd be wanting this section instead.

And even then, we can't just make your team for you. You have to create a team yourself, then we give you honest criticisms on it, and you make gradual improvements.

Sounds good. I'll check it out. I guess my main concern is that this game got so complex in my years off from it. There's all these types and stuff now. Any clue what the best starter is at least for someone who's wanting to play competitively? That's a choice I'm STUCK with so I need to make sure to make it a good one.

Types haven't changed since G/S/C, bro.

If anything consider this: Typhlosion has a good special attack but a limited movepool. Feraligatr has access to many attacks that serve it well and he can utilize them well. Meganium is the weaker of the three but it makes up for it with def/special def, and it could serve well as a support pokemon for your team.

Thank you Mr. Mini Me, but next time, just use the report button and let a moderator deal with the situation. Although, this pretty much says it all.

The Pokémon S&M Section is best for all Competitive Team discussion. You have to work up a team for yourself, following all the needed guidelines in that section (which I suggest reading all the given stickies so you know what to do) and when ready, post your thread and let others give your criticism to better your team for competitive play. Smogon is probably the best place to look up strategies and movesets for the Pokémon you wish to choose.

... Also, it isn't required for you to have a starter Pokémon when battling competitively.
