For anyone that has seen my introduction post already know that I am a complete newbie to Pokemon and even though it sounds daft and I feel stupid for saying it... I'm confused.
I have been playing the Leaf Green version and I am starting to get ready for the Elite Four, I am also trying to complete my Pokedex but I'm not sure what other versions I would need to do so. The other versions I have are: Fire Red, Emerald version and also the old Red version. Can I trade between them all? When I tried researching how to be able to get various different Pokemon and I used Leaf Green in the search, things like 4 Island and others came up and to the best of my knowledge there isn't a 4 Island...any ideas?
I promise you that there will be more dumbness from me but I don't want the post being too long so I will ask others later, Thanks in advance Rome

LeafGreen, FireRed, and Emerald are all compatible with each other. However for LG and FR, you have to complete a sidequest that comes late in the game in order to trade with Emerald. Between that three games, I'm fairly certain you can catch all of the non-event-exclusive pokemon as of that generation, although you'll have to trade for "choice" pokemon like the other two Hoenn starters and Espeon and Umbreon.

Oldschool Red is completely obsolete for trading to newer games. :/

When you were on Cinnabar Island, someone should have offered you a trip to a group of islands. Don't worry if you declined, as they will become available again later on in the game. There you can find pokemon like Moltres that you would not have been able to capture before. To complete your pokedex you need to have fire red, leaf green as well as other generation 3 games to get pokemon that are not available in emerald. And as Timbjerr said, you will not be able to use red to trade between the other three games

What they said, pretty much. Since you're new, I'll go ahead and tell you all questions go in their respective question and answer thread, which are stickied to the top of their forums. Next time you have a question about your game, make sure you look in the appropriate forum and ask in the Q&A thread. Enjoy it here, by the way. Might wanna read up on some of the rules for each section, since I know some moderators aren't as nice as me with this stuff, haha.
