6th Gen New Pikachu is relation to old information

I am not sure if anyone remembers, but I know around the time X & Y were released, there was talk in Gamefreak of a new Pikachu design. The creators said it would be a radical design and they were scared that it would harm the popularity of Pikachu. It said fans might be turned off by how different it was from how Pikachu has been seen for so long.

Are the 5 new Pikachu what they were talking about? I know some also speculated that it was the Pikachu Detective game that we haven't seen or heard about in a while. Also, others thought it might be a Mega-Evo but I think that was debunked a while ago.

I don't have a link to that interview but what does everyone else think? Are these new designs what they were referring to? Also, if anyone has a link to that interview, you can post it.
