New Pokemon

    Hi im new and there has probably been threads on this before and i also appologise if this is not in the correct place for posting it but im not an expert on pokemon and wondered how there were 151 and all of a sudden they discovered over 200 new ones? :S would they not have encountered these monsters before.
     
    Hmm. That's a nice question actually! A really good one. Well, according to Pokemon, Professor Elm has only discovered Totodile Cyndaquil and Chikorita. Probably the other ones are just able to be found on other regions. Also in the Johto League when Ash had his last battle his opponent had a Blaziken. It was said that this Pokemon can only be found in Hoenn. On the other hand Oak always upgrade Ash's Pokedex everytime he goes to other Regions. I guess there are many plots. In my opinion the most logical is that there are different Pokemon in different Regions and Ash just doesn't seem to be a travel boy or sth... xD
     
    Yeah but that doesnt make sense because for example you can get a pikachu in the first region but not a pichu but pichu is the unevolved form of pikachu? :S
     
    I know what you mean and they shouldn't call the pokemon new pokemon they should be called something like refound pokemon.
     
    Well, naturally one can assume that all of the "new" Pokemon had existed on earth before humans came in contact with them. Some people in a certain region may know of a certain species of Pokemon while another region may not. An example is like Kanto and Johto. To people living in the Kanto region, when news first hit of the Johto Pokemon, it was new to them since they themselves had never come in contact with them before.

    For us, since we cannot possibly "live" in Kanto or Johto or Hoenn, etc., when new Pokemon are released we see them as "new" Pokemon seeing as we had never been able to learn about them before. :3

    Perhaps the breeding style is different. Maybe Pikachus can't have Pichus due to climate or what not. Pikachu could have a Pichu in Johto and Hoenn because they are more prone to breed there. There are a lot of unaswered questions about Pokemon, and hopefully more will be answered when D/P arrives.
     
    I'm more interested in how such an advanced technological society suddenly comes up with new Regions that nobody knew about until the end of each season/until the next game. When there is a MAP OF THE ENTIRE WORLD IN THE SECOND MOVIE!

    But yeah. Seriously. You've got 151 Pokemon, then suddenly there's 200 new ones that are discovered, apparently all at the exact same time. I'm so glad someone besides me noticed this... Didn't they think to call over to each Region's Professor and say, "Hey, yeah. It's me, Oak. You got any new Pokemon over there that aren't in Kanto? Ok... Ok... Alright, thanks. <click> Yeah, they've got 140 Pokemon that we don't have here."
     
    I wondered that for alittle while too when the new Pokemon came out. Though back in the day they were called 'Neo' Pokemon. >>
    Bascially its just because theres so many Pokemon that live in different regions. The original 150 lived in Kanto, so at the time, the people in Kanto weren't real sure about what Pokemon were outside of that area.
    Same for the people in Johto and Hoenn.
    Pokemon that are common in one area, like Rattata in Kanto, might be considered rare in the other regions...
    At least thats what I figure.
     
    They probaly thought Pthey end itand make Ash win the league,but they saw how popular it get and made him lose,so they could continue it.Then they had some people make new pokemon,and made these sorry stories on how pokemon we're created.So since everyone asks for new pokemon they pump them out,with Legendaries so they can make up stories on how they were created to make it realistic.They tried to get smart by creating Jirachi,because he was sleeping while all this creation was going on.Also,they got smart by making Lugia nad Ho-Oh saying they had some part in the Pokemon order/peace.But,when it comes down to it Mew is the creator of all Pokemon,so they are saying Mew created all these legendary pokemon to help him,and that's how new pokemon get discovered.
    Kinda like the US we know about our country,but not much about others.So Pokemon is like a Columbus adventure,people going out and finding new pokemon.
     
    They probably make like a whole bunch of Pokemon and then they just realase them. Well except for the Us names for Manane and Manyula

    I concur with the above. Creators wanted more Pokemon, they made them, set them free, and called them 'new.' Of course, they made a preset notion of the 'I discovered a whole new breed of Pokemon!' phase. At least, this is what I think.
     
    They are always discovering new critters, there was a recent news story about a creaure that looked like a lobster with blond fur. Since humans are finding new members of the animal kingdom, one would assume they would be discovering new Pokemon. Which leads me to a question, do pokemon already know their names when discovered? Or do they learn them after being named? :P

    I think it's been said in the anime that Pokemon are often named after whatever name they utter... which is a little funny because it's like calling a duck a "quack."
     
    I love the new pre-evolved forms in the 4th generation of Pokemon. They are the cutest. Too bad they didn't release any other information about other 4th generation pokemon.
