4th Gen New to pokemon games?

Hi all so ya im new to pokemon games i just never relised that they were a rpg omg iv been missing out big time so i decided to go out and buy pokemon Diamond and a DS and ya really likeing the game so far just beat the first gym and have 22 pokemon but how menny in the game are there iv been told 500 is that correct ? also whats the max level u can get a pokemon to before it caps out? kind regards steven.

There are 493 pokemon, and the maximum level you can reach is 100

An alternate form is still the same pokemon, it just looks different. If I were to (God forbid) wear a dress I wouldn't be two different people.
